New to 2500. Advice please

I'm wondering about that as well. The WA state's cost estimator only works with a registered license plate, so I'll have to wait until I get my plates to figure it out.

Call vehicle registration place beforehand. It might take some effort to get to the right person, but they should be able to let you know any potential different in registration costs between 2500/3500

Hello everyone

 

After some time I've finally come across a potential purchase. After searching and searching I have been unable to find a 2500 with the options I wanted and in the price range I was hoping to stick to. However I have found a great deal on a 3500 6.0 WT with all the options I wanted, minus the snow plow ( really only wanted the snow plow for the under body shield protection)

 

Are there any 3500 gas owners out there that can share their experiences with me?

Hmm the fuel economy will suck even more on a 3500 but if that doesn't bother you, you've got a good truck.

i do not see the 3500 giving up much in fuel economy vs the 2500? i would have gotten a 3500 myself if there had been a white gasser wt crew on the lot. i think you get quite a bit more capability for the money.

I have had a vibration issue since buying new in 2015, there is a vibration issue in the steering wheel and gas pedal when pulling a hill at 2000rpms, disappears after you go past. after 2 years the so called engineer that finally has looked at it claims this is a normal thing in all vehicles, I call BULL***T, I have owned 7 different chevs or gmcs over the years and never had any vibrations unless a wheel was out of alignment.

They won't do anything about it now so I am stuck with it. Regret buying a new GMC truck now!

Have you taken the truck to a different dealer or even a driveline specialist? If GM can't figure it out maybe someone else can. I certainly don't trust the dealer service departments to figure out abnormal issues, heck they can't figure out normal problems. Anything beyond typical mechanical issues is way over their heads.

My upgrade to a 2500 from a 1500 has been a really good experience. The 1500 seemed to be programmed for MAXIMUM fuel economy and it showed. A transmission that wanted to be in 6th gear at 25mph, the AFM programming to be in 4 cylinder mode 90% of the time and the retarded 8 quarts of oil. I'm quite happy with the reduced fuel economy versus the worry of reliability.

The 2500 is a workhorse! Now I don't even worry about what I need to haul or tow. 2500lbs of paving stones in the box and I could notice it but it wasn't an issue at all. 20 sheets of drywall- no problem. Stacked it full of firewood- what firewood? It really is nice to have a truck that actually feels and drives like what a truck should. It inspires confidence every time I'm behind the wheel. If you know what you want, don't deny yourself- life is too short.

I haven't taken the truck anywhere else because if someone else does anything to the vehicle, GM puts the fear into you that they will viod any further warrenty work.Deffinately will take it to an exhaust shop when warrenty is done, during one of my many visits to Gm they disconnected the exhaust and the vibration dissapeared, but that seems to have not mattered they tell me now. Bunch of crap!

Didn't need any more than 2500 gives me and license plates are higher on 3500 and so was insurance. So, no benefit.

In MN, 2500HD plates are scheduled like all other passenger vehicle plates. 3500HD plates are $126/yr for first 10 years, then drop to $80.

I learned this by accident. 3500 was priced about the same as the 2500s. I was thrilled when I found out the registration was 1/3 the amount my Ram 2500 was.

Welcome! We called your location Ft. Cartoon in the 70's when I was doing my bit for Uncle. Thanks for taking up the service to the country. Some of us old vet's are truly proud of the job you younger guys are doing. Well the altitude on the front range there will bite into the mpg a little. As has been stated, the mpg on a 6.0L 2500 will be less than stellar, but if you moderate your driving a little you can pull off something that is more tolerable.

 

And as revrnd stated, when you are empty or light loaded, drop the tire pressures! You will appreciate the ride difference and better handling. He is right, the OEM recommended pressures are for max gross loading. I generally run about 55 myself. I got a set of BFG KO2 replacements this last fall and I got BFG to email me a tire load / pressure chart on the tires. Tires should be aired up to a level that matches the actual loading on the tires. With the stock OEM pressures, you will get substantial rear wheel hop when empty that will negatively affect mpg due to the electronics doing a lot of compensation for anti slip. The average mpg on my 2015 2500 improved about 1-2 mpg overall by getting the tire pressures down to a more reasonable level when empty. I just ignore the TPMS warning nonsense. Just a stupid little light that I pay no attention to.

 

But overall, the 2500 is the just about the best pickup going for the dollar. GM did pretty good. The 6.0L is darn near bullet proof and tied up with the 6L90 trans and 4.10 rears, will pull down the side of the barn. It won the Ike Gauntlet pull test which is towing 13,000 lb of trailer and another 500 lb in the box up I-70 to the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado. Butchered a Ram 6.4L 2500.

 

 

Any chance you can post the BFG pressure chart for the KO2's? That's what I run.
