No filter change. 

 

She's going to beat me into submission :crackup:She is no limited to 50 miles from home. No more day trips.

Cut fuel trims in half although they were in spec. :crackup:

Seems par for GM. Not right and yet doesn't toss a MIL. :mad:

Dismounted one leaky tire. Cleaned rim and tire beads. Went crazy with the sealer. We'll see.

1,000 mile OCI and more than long enough. 

12-16 ounces makeup. Pretty steady now. 

 

No filter 3K on it

5 Quarts Valvoline R&P 5W30 (No longer on sale and not cheap)

 

P0420 low cat efficiency is coming in a couple of times a day. Trims are wonky and it stayed on high cold idle longer.

 

Dropped a gallon of lacquer thinner in half a tank and ran it 200 miles. About 3 days now without tossing a code. Trims are even and low and idle restored.

Rebuild entire parking brake system. Nightmare. Literally took 6 weeks and multiple trips as crap kept breaking and new parts failed or were hard to source. I do the Continental breakfast there now and am all day entertainment. :) Nine hours in the waiting room just today. 

 

Replace battery. 650 CCA unit only servicing 483 CCA on load test. Was 17 F this morning when I left and rolled over like it was -30 F. Interstate Battery. They've been giving good service life and take care of business when something goes sideways. 

 

Belle Tire did the work and did a fine job with a difficult situation. Hats off Sycamore Illinois Belle Tire and Miata Dan.

1,000 mile OCI and use a bit more than a quart. Front seal is leaking worse and I expect the extra usage is that judging by the underside. :( 

 

Some white snot. Installed larger vent orifice. Short hopping in cold weather isn't helping but what I trust it to do.

965 mile actual OCI. Used over a quart. Had a semi warm dry day. 

P0420 on a couple times a month now. No longer fighting it. 

Larger orifice eliminated water/snot in the breathers but pulls more oil. Yet, leaks less around the front timing seal.

Gave it a bath. Touched up rust spots (Lanolin)

I’m better now, but not much. Automobiles are my obsession. I’ve had way too many. It helps I have a couple to choose from. The Odyssey is the only one that leaves town. I drive it the least. But it’s sees the most miles. I am always thinking of the next one, always researching. Same with my next meal another obsession. Weight Watchers has saved my obsession, probably my life. I like driving the Odyssey. It drives different than anyone would imagine. But my dark side is shouting soccer mom. It didn’t help during the holidays my sister saw it and started laughing when she saw me getting in it. I’m shooting for 200K. At that time it will probably need about 5K in maintenance including tires. About what it cost at 100-127 miles. That doesn’t count front end, alternator etc. Those milestones are pretty fixed. It helps that the transmission service is easy, I do it myself. The fluid is expensive by itself. It takes 4 drains and fills. So after 200K is too much leap of faith for me, even with a Honda. I’ve been researching leasing. Depending on the vehicle value. And if you can pay cash there’s very little interest. For between 13-18K you can drive a new vehicle for 3 years. If you like it you can buy it for about the same price. If it’s worth more than the turn in you can sell it and put that down on the next one. For people like me who can’t seem to get past 3 years. It’s a pretty good deal. Especially since if I sell the Odyssey my first 3 years are free. I would basically be buying a used car at use car prices the I drove from new. It’s hard to justify running the Odyssey into the ground to no value.

Noteworthy. Uses about half the oil on this oil than the Supertech Conventional 5W30 Fewer P0420 sightings :) 

 

Breather was pretty clean and the oil remained thick and slick. But ready to change. Dark brown but not black. A thousand on rings this bad is good by me.

Exhaust pipe between muffler and resonator broke. Wired it up for now. Has a lifetime Walker on it. We'll see how good that warranty is.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
