GTPprix Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 Is this a software or a hardware change? If it's software, and a 16 built with a 15 radio can be upgraded, then a 15 built with a 15 radio could be upgraded as well. If it's hardware, can a 15 be upgraded to a 16 radio?Hardware. (In your scenario above)
reddog48 Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 Sorry for the nub question, but how do I decide my vin to see if my 2016 Silverado can get the radio update for andriod? The link provided states: From: S0P To: GF192523 (Plant F) The first part of my vin is: 3GCUKSEC2GGxxxxxx I would love to be able to connect my phone via Android Auto and hope my radio is compatible. Thanks for any guidance. Dan
GTBensley Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I too am curious about this. I have a 2016 with the 8inch screen but it only shows a projection app. When. I open Android auto and try to project it I get promoted to connect a comparable devise. Does my truck need an update or am I doing this wrong?

Stupid question but are you connecting the phone to the truck with a USB cable? Once you have AA on the phone and connect the cable the Projection icon on the screen should turn to an AA icon.
tbarn Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 This goes back aways but if I remember correctly, '16 originally came with AppleCar Play. Android Auto came later. But about the same time, GM ran out of HMI modules that could handle the increased workload. That is why that there is an upgrade in software available for some. The early trucks could handle AA but not the later ones. If you have the original window sticker, there will be a credit on it if it is not AA compatible. There is also a code on your build sticker in the glove box if not comapable. Can't remember what it is though.
GTBensley Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Thank you, that's what I had concluded as well. I bought it used so no window sticker....dealer believes it can be upgraded however so having them try while I get the recall for the brake pedal bolt done. Will let you know how it turns out.

That's a valid question....and I thought that's how it should work as well but it doesn't. Yup I have a USB plugged in and AA going on the phone. Options shows apple car play in the menu but nothing about AA
