Question foe everyone, I just installed an 18" Magnaflow and have the flapper in the open position.

I left the resonator on.

Sounds good, but I want just a bit more.

Will removing the resonator effect drone in the cab?

Will removing it make it sound better?

Yes, it will drone more.

Yes, it will sound better. (But not a lot)

The flapper valve controls V4 "Chop"

The resonator controls drone.

As discussed in another thread a while back, these trucks are "Inherently Quiet". You've basically got 6 mufflers...

I can't believe they can even run with all that stuff in the way. It's like shoving a potato up your tailpipe.

Luster - didn't you have the magnaflow 18" and 14" installed at one point in time. How did they compare to each other?

Yes.

I have to be honest. Neither one gave me enough volume and there wasn't really a whole lot of difference between the two.

Now that I've gone to a pretty loud setup (Flowmaster 10, no flapper, no rez) I'm starting to realize that part of the quietness of these trucks is the insulation in the cab and the wheel wells. The exhaust is actually pretty loud, I just can't hear it because it's so quiet inside.

Thanks for the info. So I went to the shop today, had them take out the resonator. That is the sound I was looking for.

One small problem though, I now have the "chopper" sound when in V4 mode.

I left the butterfly valve in but wired in the open position. If I put it back to normal, the chopper sound should go away right? Will I lose some sound in the process?

Yes, you should unwire the flapper valve. The other option is AFM delete, which involves tuning out the AFM in your trucks computer.

Luster - Check this out..........

These 6.2L trucks could benefit from true dual mufflers with 2 mufflers or a dual in/out like this one. If you read the comments - this Texas muffler shop enjoys their own exclusive FlowMaster part numbers - and they double as a X-Pipe - interesting.........

programmer will be next for me... with the flowmaster 10.. i'm currently driving in m7 around town.. which feels awesome... the sound is amazing...stays in v8.... i didnt like it dropping into v4 all the time and the back to 8.. just felt funny on the pedal.... there is drone.. but its only in certain gears at certain speeds.. sometimes you can barely hear it just cruising... .. but pushing it through those gears with this muffler from a stop is ridiculous.... sounds like an old school muscle car... i mean all engine!.. like luster, flaper and res gone...
