Powerfolding Tow Mirror Issue

Recommended Posts

Hey all. Over the past couple days I've noticed two times that my driver side mirror doesn't always fold in, it'll rotate in like maybe a half inch then just stops. Hitting unlock on the keyfob to fold it back out then relocking to try it again has always gotten it to fold in successfully.

Another thing I've noticed is that the powerfolding motor just sounds like its weak, but its pretty much always sounded that way so I just assume its the way it is, I've never heard any other vehicles powerfolding mirrors before.

Any thoughts on this? I wonder what it costs if these motors take a crap.

I have noticed mine don't fold in at the exact same speed but not like what you are describing :( hopefully someone has answers

Hey mine don't fold in at the same speed either! Its always bugged me a little if I pay attention to them fold. I can't recall which side is faster, I want to say it's the passenger side.

I will check this tomorrow.

I don't have tow mirrors, but the motors are pretty weak. I have noticed that one of my mirrors might not fold out/in if the mirror arm has some ice on it. Once it melts, it seems fine.

Mirrors are about 800 at the dealer. Next time it binds leave it and take to the dealer.

That's why I posted here, misery loves company! I just took a video of it happening again this morning, unfortunately I didn't think to video until I had it over halfway folded in. Basically you gotta fold it out but then press it real quick to fold back in and it'll gain another quarter of an inch. Keep repeating til its in LOL. It's so weird, basically the motor just runs outta guts after like a half second, like the batteries are wearing out in a kids toy lol.

Thanks for confirming they are pretty weak. Yes, I totally agree on the ice situation, I had that happen once. I just manually pushed it to help out the motor. I avoid folding them now on days where we might get that kind of weather.

Here is a video I just took this morning. I like I said, I wish I started filming sooner, I had to "wiggle" it all the way in like that. Watch the gap between the bottom of the mirror and window, you'll se how it slowly makes progress everytime. I uploaded it to Photobucket instead of my YouTube acc, hopefully this works...

Hmm I just did mine and they seem like they are fine as far as power to push through ice. (I'm in Canada and we ha s plenty of ice at the moment lol) My part #s were different .. he told me these were fairly new part #s . Maybe they changed the motor or something on the latest ones ?

Some shots of silicone spray in the folding cracks top and bottom will fix it while closing them a few times to saturate it in. I had the same non-folding passenger mirror last week and silicone fixed it. A slight "wiggle" did remedy temporarily.

Every now and then, my DL3 Mirrors will act funny. Driver side would not fold on the first go. Happened about 3 times.

Passenger side mirror is slight heavier than the dr side , that's why it's a little slower....

You might want to put it on a diet?
