Radio Turned On When I Opened Door

It was the weirdest thing. It's dark out, its quiet, no one really around. I open the door to my truck, get in, all of a sudden I hear voices faintly (my radio volume defaults to about 10% on restarts) talking about Obamacare/Politics. Key not in ignition, the radio screen is just doing the GMC start up intro then goes grey. What's also weird is that it was on a different station than when I shut it down. Went from FM to AM. I obviously couldn't confirm it was on a different station until I turned the ignition on so that the touchscreen came on, but I figured my local country station didn't talk about news like this lol.

Maybe my grandpa was looking down on me, or even joined me on that ride home? It was on his station.

But anyway, anyone else ever experiemce this? When I got home I got out, locked it, waited a minute, unlocked it and opened the door, no radio. Only time it's ever done it. Guessing it's just one of those one off times.

Just last weekend I had something kind of similar happen. When I opened the door I stared hearing static noise coming out of the speakers and the screen was frozen on the mylink symbol. Shut the door and opened it back up and everything was back to normal. I keep my vehicles for a long time (10 or more years) so I hope this doesn't turn into an expensive fix 5 years from now.

I had this issue as well

Resulted in a lemon and buyback

Mine has done this loud buzzing sound evey once in a while when I open driver side door. It has only done it maybe 2 or 3 times in a little over a year and a half. Everything has always worked ok. Maybe just a glitch?

My 14 and 16 both did the static noise or the buzzing on occasion. Seems like interference and some sort of software glitch. It drives me nuts that the screen backlighting pops on when you lock or unlock. While I am technically a millenial and love some of the technology stuff, it is getting ridiculous. I'm not sure how much the dash screen costs to get replaced and I'm positive I don't want to find out.

I've also never understood why the screen has to come on before you start the vehicle but it is what it is. Sometimes I wonder if I would have been better off dumping 5 to 8 grand in my 02 model and getting all the rust fixed and a repaint and just keeping it. My 02 mechanically was a great truck but the rust is what got me shopping for a new truck.

I think that same thing. Had a 2006 silverado with 5.3 Z71. Hands down best vehicle I ever owned. Bought it new in 06 drove it 9 years sold it with 108 000 on it. Never let me down and only thing I did to it was a front wheel bearing and front pads. I will be amazed if my 15 does this.

I recommend getting it checked by your GM dealership. This could be indicative of a small glitch or a bigger issue. I always report concerns to my service adviser and make sure they are recorded even if they say "it's normal".

"They don't build them like they used to!" I often think this when buying a new truck and I believe they keep getting better! I do make sure that I take full advantage of my warranty and get any issue repaired prior to the expiry of the warranty. I fully expect my 2015 to outlast my previous pickups!

I do know what you are saying and I hope I am wrong. Like I mentioned, I keep my trucks for a long time and have only owned 4 vehicles in my life. I've had a 82, 92, 2002, and now my 2014 silverado with the last two bought new. I didn't feel like this when getting rid of 82 or 92 model (even though I still miss styling I don't miss the weak V8's compared to present day trucks) I do feel like this ever since I bought my 2014 and I've had it for 2.5 years now. I am not too worried about it mechanically but I do have concerns over the electronics holding out, especially the "brain" in the center of the dash which controls not only your radio but HVAC and other things as well. Hopefully in 8 or more years when I buy my next silvy I will say damn, I think this 2024 model is not as good as my 2014 was! Only time will tell but I am older and financially I can afford to dump my 2014 and buy something else if problems do arise but lets hope that don't happen.

Same here, didn't change the front brake pads till 120k miles! I did go through quite a few rear pads though and that is why GM went back to drums in the rear for a while. My 2002 did start nickel and diming me with little things like power door lock motors, 02 sensors, new radio, etc but the rust is what was the final nail in the coffin. All 4 quarter panels, rocker panels, brake, fuel, and trans lines all were falling apart with rust which seemed to come out of no where. One year everything seemed fine and the next rust was everywhere. I am in a profession where my company supplies myself and the guys I work with a truck that we take home everyday and we beat the crap out of them (timber buyer) and all of our newer trucks are holding up just fine. We have a few 2014 and 2015 silverados in our fleet and they have held up fine but we have had to put a leveling kit and bigger tires on them because of the sorry front end ground clearance (an issue we never had to deal with in previous generation silvys). My 2012 Ford 150 has got 100k hard miles on it now and not a problem yet but it is about time for them to trade it in for me a new one and I have requested a 2500 because of ground clearance issues with all these newer half ton trucks. They prefer not too because of the lower fuel mileage (I am on the interstate alot) but we will see.

Mine has started playing music from my phone at times when I am getting gas (keys not in ignition). I didn't even think twice about it personally.

Because GM Marketing said so. I guarantee it. Getting in a Denali in the showroom, and seeing that flashy animation stuff oohs and aahs people.

And I am sure the engineering guys were cool with that, since it gave them the go ahead to pull battery power early, which allows them to start booting up QNX bits under the covers so it looks like your screen is fast and responsive right after the ignition start.

I am willing to bet the audio problems are a software bug where things are coming up and a code flow is missing the "mute" necessity.

<software engineer hat off now>

I get that static noice every so often when I open the door. It happens once every couple of months . Seems like a lot of these minor issues never get fixed if 2016s are doing it also .

    • I find it amusing the OP doesn’t realize this threads heading includes several engines. He should have posted in the off topic section if he wanted a more narrow focus. I really appreciate and find amusing that he actually pointed out one of my many vehicles. The Odyssey. That happens to use 0-20 oil. I love pushing his buttons.
    • Maybe, but it seems he is the only one that has backed up data to prove what he is stating. I think he is doing this more because he enjoys it and wants to get the information out to us. He's got the knowledge and access to the proper equipment and having the funds doesn't hurt.  I would love to do what he is doing and would do it if and when I hit the Powerball.  I'm not a Tribologist by any means but love to learn what I can.   I would bet there would be doubting people out there if a completely independent lab with high quality work and highly respected in the automotive industry, put out information like this.  The world can't be pleased, one just has to take the information that they are given, do more of their own research to find actual lab data to back up what they are trying to figure/find out.  Most don't bother, they just want to believe what they first see.     I don't have the minimax but my 6.2 in my 2019 Silverado with 64k miles shows excellent UOA results with 0w-20 and for my own purposes 5w-20.  Since not much of a change using 5w. I liked the data sheet information on the SS 5w-20 and figured I would give it a try.  Still the same viscosity at 100℃.   In the end we all just do what makes us happy, life is too short to get upset over trivial social media.   On a side note, I do feel GM has dropped the ball and just cares about the bottom dollar and not quality anymore.  "Like a Rock" has been long gone.  Seems "Built Ford Tough" has as well.
    • Better than stock but that's like putting lipstick on a pig
    • Hello, my 3 month old Sierra Elevation wont recognize a trailer with electric brakes? All the lights work correctly, but no power to the brakes?   This is the factory installed brake controller. If you manually push the knob, the display shows the power % but does not light up like my 2022 silverado.   I have an appointment with the dealer, but was checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue.    Thanks,
    • Been using SS 0w-20 from new, but wanted to change to the 5w-20 because I liked the data on the data sheet, to me it seems like a little better product. But as you can see, not much difference. This is also with running a mix of 10 gallons E85 to a tank topped with 93. It isn't a flex fuel vehicle so any higher I get a CEL for running lean on both banks. Yes my mileage takes a hit. Instead of 20 mpg I normally get on trips I get 17mpg. This is also using EaO17 filter.  What is amazing is I have the AMSOIL cone filter on it since I have the GM Performance intake installed and that air filter has 44k miles on it.  I just take it out and shop vac it off once a year.  I use the upholstery tool on my shop vac.  Works well.
