Is the infotainment system usb 3.0?

I loaded 4000 songs on a regular USB 2.0 drive and it took it a while to index. So I bought a USB 3.0 memory stick and loaded the same 4000 songs and the indexing was done a lot quicker. However this maybe also because the index is cached in the system? Anyway does anyone know if the infotainment system is USB 3.0? (I have a 2016 Sierra Denali). Thanks

As a stndard, all USB 3.0 ports are blue in color. Of the 3 in my 2016 silverado, they are all black, so I know mine are 2.0 for sure.

See if yours are blue

I'm not sure if this is necessarily true. My mac has USB 3.0s but they are black.

from the Chevy's owners manual,

USB Port (Base Radio

with Touchscreen)

Using the USB Port

The infotainment system can play

music or movies by connecting an

auxiliary device to the USB port.

USB Support

If equipped, the USB connector is in

the center stack below the climate

controls, and uses the USB 2.0

standard.

USB Supported Devices

. USB Flash Drives

. Portable USB Hard Drives

Not all iPods and USB drives are

compatible with the USB port.

Usually 3.0 devices are backwards compatible... you may need to try a different model or brand.

The MyLink may only be USB 2.0, but that doesn't mean that a USB 3.0 device wouldn't be faster than a USB 2.0 device. A USB 3.0 device would be much more capable of saturating the 480Mbps (60 MB/sec) bus that USB 2.0 offers because it is designed for faster transfer speeds. Most USB 2.0 flash drives that I have seen routinely hang around the 10-20 MB/sec (80-160Mbps) range, which isn't even half the speed potential of USB 2.0. USB 3.0 devices can transfer up to 5 Gbps (625 MB/sec) theoretically, and while most flash drives won't reach that rate, the flash storage is generally of a higher quality and therefore faster in general, even when running only on USB 2.0.
