Always keep a two foot piece of pipe laying around to help bend stuff that needs to be "adjusted".

Man I must be getting old. Do I really prefer a quiet truck? After two exhaust systems and an intake went on my truck and came right back off I had decided to just stick with stock. Then I stumbled on an open box never installed GM Borla system that was so cheap I almost hurt my thumb hitting the Buy it Now button. Well it will be delivered today and I have this weird non-excited - going to make another mistake feeling in my stomach. Tell me I am wrong and life will be good once installed? Did I mention my wife will flip out when she the now 3rd exhaust box in the driveway? Yikes.

I'm half tempted to bail on this new exhaust and just sell it, but I feel like I've put so much into research and sound clips, and forum posts that I have to just jump off the deep end and install the darn thing. My truck just had the new 2017 stock exhaust put on with the new flapper which doesnt rattle. This new 17 stock exhaust seems noticeably louder than my 16 stock exhaust. That is why I'm hesitant about the borla. I think I just need a little encouragement that this GM Borla will be nice and quiet around town but sound great when floored.

So after a few days and a hundred miles I would have to say the GM Borla sounds much louder than my test drive after install. I would say it is louder in a bad way. There is some annoying what I would call drone around 1,700 to 1,900 rpms sounds similar but not as bad as MBRP I had on first. I am also disappointed in the amount of v4 helicopter noise even though it has the flapper. It sounds very similar to when I had my stock exhaust flapper clamped open.

I would say I am 65% excited, 35% disappointed.

Looks like I will have to put the range afm back in, and look at sound deadening of the cab or perhaps installing a small resonator on each tailpipe to knock down some of the unwanted frequencies.

Borla sales resonated tips for the 2.25 rear pipes, I installed these on my 2013 they do help, but they are weld on only.

I only notice its a hair louder at idle, cruising no difference no heli for me, besides I think the original design wasn't flowing well might help get me 1 mpg bump at highway speeds with the newer design, it was traping water in the bypass tube.

You do need to keep in mind that the Borla design is different than GM OEM flapper, it allows for much more flow. GM-Borla flapper is not circle style throttle blade anymore, more like a "D"

Shamrock can you leave us something in the will because I am certain your significant other is going to kill you off. All kidding aside you may want to look at installing some J-Pipes. These have been known to cure droan on even the loudest exhaust systems. Just do a Google search for J Pipe resonator and LS1 Tech has loads of great information.

Well if it's anything like my duratrac tires it may seem loud at first but after 2 weeks my ears will adjust and it will sound normal.

Going on a 200 mile highway trip this weekend so I will how the mpg does if I can stay off the fun pedal

Checked all my clamps after 2 days. They all needed 3 to 4 more ratchet clicks on the same torque wrench to get back to spec. So if you install with clamps, make sure you check them after a few days.

I was also surprised how easy it was to loosen the one bolt on the frame through the hitch for the left hanger. All my hitch bolts needed a good snug too.

Lets us know how the GM borla sounds after the trip Like you my days of loud exhaust are over

I just installed The GM Performance 6.2 exhaust Corsa. No flapper no resonator. So far very tame perfect for me no V4 helicopter sound. But not much time on it yet

Some dynamat on the rear wall and floor will do wonders for that RPM range on the highway. Not too demanding of an install. If you remove the front seats and console and do the entire floor you'd have even more improvement but it adds quite a bit of work.

I did the bottom half of the rear wall and the exposed area of the floor shown in the picture. I used about half of the dynamat bulk pack that retails on Amazon for $150

I put exhaust on my rigs to hear it myself - This thread is giving me cold feet too - to modify the stock exhaust in anyway - if even the reportedly tame GM Borla exhaust is creating unwanted vibes..........

To some it's vibes, to some it's drone, to some its exhaust noise. Yes my Corsa exhaust sounds great, yes it would "drone" in V4 even thought it's supposedly "droneless". Less than other exhausts but it's still a noticeable noise. I run the range afm disabler, and would run it regardless of stock exhaust or aftermarket.

The sound deadening took away what I can best describe as a tinny panel vibration at highway cruising RPMs.

Was it perfectly acceptable before I did that? Yes

Is it slightly quieter now? To my ears yes I can't say for sure the decibel level is lower, and to be honest I doubt it is. Maybe 1-2 at most. But tone has changed and is much less noticeable to my ears.

So 200 mile trip with wife, kids, dogs, couple hundred lbs of gear, 2000 ft elevation change. 55 to 65 mph with 91 octane ethanol free gas. 20.8 mpg hand and computer calculated. Oh and I have a 300 lb leer topper and duratrac mud tires. Mostly the borla is noticeably in low speed low acceleration when cold. This is when the unwanted noise comes in regardless of v4. On the highway over 55 it is quite pleasant but if you get around 45 and the rpms drop to 1,200 it can hum a bit. When I backed in at camp up a hilly driveway, the flex pipe was banging loudly on the frame. Think I'm going g to have to remove it and bend the hanger.

I think I might try the sound deadening as suggested. Now the the borla is on, I need something else to research and tinker with on this truck....

So I'm curious if my leer fiberglass truck cap on the back makes my gm borla echo or reflects the noise more than someone with an open bed?

I got to drive home about 8 buddies in my crew cab from the bar. The ones sitting in the bed gave two drunk thumbs up to the borla.[emoji106] [emoji106]
