2015 with reduced power and codes. I have warranty questions???

I love my truck but a bit frustrated right now. The kids had spring break last week so we left to the dessert on Thursday pulling the toy hauler.

Start rant...

Everything was great until the SEL and reduced power mode kicked on in the middle of a grade. The truck wasn't working hard. About 2200rpm at 55mph, 73 degrees outside and trans temp at 143.

It freaked me out because it dropped to 40mph with now power. I turned down the radio, turned off the air and listened to see if anything sounded weird. Nothing seemed different, but I pulled over as soon as I could to check everything out.

I popped the hood and didn't see anything. I checked the oil it was full. I started the truck back up and the SEL was still on but no reduced power message. I cycled the key a couple times then got back on the road. Power seemed fine but I didn't want to push it.

We pulled into the closest dealer about 20miles away and they scanned the computer for codes.

Two came up. P2263 and P2599.

The tech said it was the turbo and he advised leaving it. I explained that power came back after I cycled power, so he cleared the codes, told me to keep an eye on it and take it to my local dealer after the weekend. He said it may have been a one time thing.

After we left the dealer, we got to the camp ground about 2 hours later without any other issues. I ran into town a couple times and everything was cool too so I was thinking no biggie, just a random issue.

Well, on the way back, we were about an hour into the drive and on a mild but long grade. The same thing happened again. SEL and reduced power message. Same speed as before, trans was 135 and temp was about 65.

I left off and slowed down. About 20 minutes later we came to a stop light, so I cycled the key and power came back, but the SEL stayed on the rest of the way home.

First thing this morning I left to drop the truck off at my local dealer. I pull up and realize that the SEL light was off. What the @@@@!

I saw one of the advisors I'd worked with in the past, so I spoke to him and explained what was going on. I also told him that I had pictures of the scanner and codes, and that I also called onstar so they had a record of it too. He said that they've replaced about 10 harnesses because mice had chewed the lead for the turbo position sensor. He said he'd check it out and give me a call with updates.

I got a call from him mid day saying that he found the same codes in history, but the harness was fine. He then told me that he thought it was the sensor and harness but it wasn't a warranty part and it would cost me $1200 if I wanted to replace it.

I was like WHAT?!?!?! He said sensors and harnesses aren't under the motor and power train warranty. Oh, my truck has 66k on the clock, but he said that didn't matter anyway because it's not covered under the standard warranty either.

I was pissed and asked what he recommend I should do... he said drive it and bring it in if it happens again. They can't diagnose or troubleshoot unless the SEL is on. Total BS.

I have a few questions.

1. Is this a common issue? Do mice eat the harnesses?

2. If the sensors are bad, are they not under warranty?

3. If this is a common issue and I'm on the hook, how do I keep it from happening again?

Sorry, I have a couple more things to mention;)

Now that this has happened, I'm a bit sketchy about the truck. Here's a bit of history.

At 5k, the dealer replaced injector 3 because it failed.

At 15k, the dealer replaced injector 6 because it failed.

At 30k, it developed an oil leak. The dealer finally replaced the oil pan gasket at 55k, then charged me for an oil change!

At 33k, the third light started leaking and stained the headliner. I went back and forth with the dealer until they finally agreed to replace the light for $350, and sorry about the headliner. I'm out of the 36k warranty.

At 62k, the dealer replaced the DEF tank.

Now this at 66k.

Serious question... is this typical, or should I be concerned[emoji522][emoji522][emoji522]?

Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sean

You are on the hook for $90 diagnostics already, right? Trade it in on an all new L5P. You know, the duramaxes have such a great resale value, and so forth. If the dealer owns the 66k mi truck with a $1200 problem, I'll bet that they can get it covered by warranty.

My trailer is around 13k. I need to tow it w a diesel.

I've thought about trading it in and that's an option. Just pissed about having to deal with the BS and that trading in is the best option.

Well, GM wouldn't get any more of my money if I were you. And I can tell you from personal experience that Fiat makes junk. That leaves only one option. I won't say the word itself, but I will say that I had a base model Ranger that treated me well.

You think he should trade it for a bass boat?

Well sensors and so forth are not covered by power train warranty. But you should read your warranty booklet to see more details.

I'm in the trade it in camp. I had a '15 1500 that had transmission issues at 60,000Kms. The service dealer rebuilt the trans with new clutches, new valve body, torque converter and seals. All covered under warranty but I didn't really like the idea of a rebuilt transmission at such a low mileage. They had the truck for just over one day which didn't sit too well either. I think they hurried the job because I had a rental vehicle on their dime and it was coming to the weekend. Next day I tested the truck and the issue was still there so I said F*** it and checked some dealers in the area and traded it in on a 2500. The dealer gave me more than I could sell it for and also gave me a great deal on the new truck. Life is too short to deal with unreliable vehicles. I was lucky enough to not have to deal with a loss on the trade. If you have lost your faith in your truck- trade it. It's possible to get another crapper but it's a pretty slim chance. As far as a Ford or a Dodge that's just plain stupid. My father was a auto mechanic for 45 years. Worked for Dodge/ Chrysler dealers. I once asked him why he wouldn't work for GM as they had nicer cars he said that he worked for Dodge for a reason more repairs equals more money. When he retired he bought a Chevy truck.

Yes, mice eat harnesses. See it often. Powertrain warranty mostly covers mechanical such as valves, pistons, gaskets, turbo's, trans and differential parts.

Thanks guys. I've been a Ford guy since I got my Bronco in High School. I got into diesels when I bought my 03 Excursion with a 6oh no. After that I bought a 7.3, then a Dodge with a 5.9.

I bought my Silverado and it's been the best of any so far. I love everything about it and get compliments all the time. I'm not going back to Dodge or Ford, just thinking about the best option. I started looking at the 17's today and like the added power. Everything else is basically the same as my 15.

One more thing that I've been scratching my head about since I picked up the truck today. I hopped in and pulled away, then noticed that the display was different. It is now red, it has a video icon and also when I turn on the truck GMC shows up on the display instead of Chevy.

What the @@@@?

Now I'm thinking they updated the software but used GMC instead of Chevy.
