Kicker Sub Question

Recommended Posts

Posted

Been a little while since I've had a sub installed in a vehicle, but am interested in the Kicker system I see so many posts about.

Does anyone have this with the stock speakers/sound system? Just curious if it's a waste to get this but keeping all the stock speakers and such in my truck. I have a 2015 Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab without the Bose system.

Just looking for some feedback on if it's not worth getting it if I keep everything else stock.

Thanks very much.

I just ordered the system yesterday. I was in the same boat, and did a ton of reading before ordering. General consensus was that it is worth the money. I only read a couple negatives, and they didn't seem to be negatives that I would have been bothered with. I have a 2016 CC without Bose.

Save your money and get one of the many available powered enclosures. I installed a Cerwin vega 10" under the middle of the backseat, didn't lose any storage space, and it only cost me ~$230. The wiring was no more difficult.

I added a Rockford fosgate 10" truck enclosure in a regular cab...definitely filled out the sound profile.

Kicker is plug and play, and in my opinion worth it on a base stereo. I have the LT base stereo as well, and I'm very happy with this.

Sure, if you're a audiophile, you'll have complaints. However, if you simply want to ad some bump and is easy to install, this is for you.

I think that kicker sub is $700 right?

I spent about $100 on materials for a custom box, $349 for the shallow jl 12", Amp wire kit $20 eBay $79 on the audio control lc2i and $150 on my alpine amp. I guess I spent about the same as the kicker costs and did the install myself. I don't think that powered kicker compares to my shallow jl 12" so I would recommend piecing together better components for a better sound. If you don't want to get your hands dirty than maybe that kicker will do, not for me though.

Yeah, it's the kit that is $700. You can find them on ebay a bit cheaper.

I bought mine used on this forum for $350, so it was a no brainer for me.

Where is the base control? Is it on the sub itself or on the amp, or is there a separate control knob to mount?

One thing I was noticing with my stock speakers was even with a bit of bass (nothing crazy by any means) I could hear the speaker cover rattling on the door. Will this draw the base through the sub and hopefully eliminate this issue? It was only happening with songs with heavier base. If I listened to a country song it would be no issue even cranked up.

As usual, this forum has taken up much of my day reading up on different mods, including sound systems. Pretty sure I will be getting a sub, amp, and replacing the door speakers (front and back)... Mine as well do it all at the same time. Anyone have suggestions on what they have run in the front and rear doors? Brand and size would be appreciated. I am pretty sold on the Kicker amp/sub though.

Thanks.

I never have had any crackle or rattling. However, I will say that with the Kicker kit, you will turn your setting down a bit to even out the sound. That will probably eliminate your problem.

Just installed mine tonight. It sounds awesome, gave me what I was looking for. Wasn't tough to install, took about 3 hours total.
