BakFlip MX4

BakFlip was the worst bed cover I’ve ever owned. Holds lots of weight when closed but absolute piece of junk. Thin PCs of aluminum sandwiching styrofoam and with plastic locking mechanisms. I had a bag of 15 pound mulch in the bed with the BakFlip closed, drove softly over a speed bump, got home and the rivets that attach locking mechanism ripped out of the paper thin aluminum. I gave it away to a neighbor and eventually he threw it away informing me his disgust with the manufacturing of it. I have a RollNLock for the passed 4 years, abused the hell out of it and it works perfect. Night and day difference with the quality. Retrax is great too.

BGM, I had the same problem with my second set of rails and second cover. I emailed my supplier and they mailed me another set of rails. They work better but not great. The problem is the first panel on the cover is too deep which makes the rails too long. If I remember correctly, my first covers initial panel was 4” long and the second one was 6”. I am not impressed with backflip. I ended up giving up hope with replacement parts and this second covers seal is also separating... their quality control in non existent. Shoot my inital order came with rails about a whole foot shorter than my bed length...

I had a MX4 on my 2016 Colorado that I just traded in a few weeks ago for a 2018 Silverado. Since I had some good luck with the MX4, I decided to order the one for my Silverado. I love the flush look and I never really had many issues with my last one, except for a few small leaks here and there as these aren't 100% waterproof. I sold that one last week for a decent price.

I ordered the one for my new truck from Realtruck, I receive it today and got it installed. Where has their quality control gone? I am having an issue with some of the bolts not fitting properly and had to really force them through. Then I have an issue with my prop rods being too long. I'll contact BAK or Realtruck about this and see if I can get another set. Then there is another issue with some of the seals not looking right. We will get some rain tonight so I'll see how this looks tomorrow.
