So I guess my first time using an eraser wheel I completely ruined my tailgate. I have a bunch of discoloration in the paint. Is there any way to fix this or does it need to be repainted

Maybe some pictures will help...But I hate to say it but if you burned the top coat and into the paint then yeah it's gonna need paint...Was the wheel dried up or old?? Maybe the discoloration you see is the wheel falling apart...But pictures will help

Yep been trying for a while now

What are you using to cover this up?

Do you have access to a DA orbital polisher, & glaze/sealant?

Glaze being whitelight in your case for red vehicle and jet seal from chemical guys.

How hard did you push? You really don't use any pressure with the wheel

Not hard at all because this is exactly what I didn't want to do

What boggles my mine is why you didn't do a spot test or were you hoping it would buff out after?

Well since everyone I know uses them and have never had a problem I thought I would be fine. Maybe I should've had you come do it

Everyone ****s things up once in while...No need to get on this guy...Let's find him some help or possible solutions....Good thing it's the tailgate and not a door though...A door paint job means blend alot of the times which means more paint and more possible night mares. A tailgate is easier to blend because it stands mostly alone

The key to an eraser wheel is to keep moving and not get the panel or spot overheated. If you burned through the clear coat you should be able to feel it and then yes it needs to go to a body shop.
