After talking to GM on several occasions it would appear there is a 12 to 20 week backlog on getting a new condenser. That being said if you were in the Dallas area you may want to reach out to Carlisle GMC Buick in Waxahachie they have four AC condensers in stock, make that three as they are currently installing one on my truck dropped it off today will be fixed tomorrow!!!

I am in Oregon. We have humidity and temps over 90, BUT, you are better off if you are in what GM thinks is a "hot state." They flat out told me they are picking and choosing who gets condensers based on location and temps. I feel for those of you in the South, but that practice sounds illegal to me. I paid for a condenser but won't get one until GM decides I am warm enough.

Call your attorney general office please! I've reported to Oregon AG and the federal DOJ for antitrust violations. GM has a monopoly on this part and they are playing God. The more pressure they get the better. I've been waiting 6weeks for a condenser and no better eta than "6 months."

Just remember, even if they do not have the OEM part, they will cover an aftermarket condenser if they cannot source an OEM replacement, and you sign a waver

I hope there is a recall issued on this but since it is not safety related then I doubt it. I am a low mileage driver (company truck during the week) so this will probably hit me later then those of you who drive your truck on a daily basis. As far as the practice of choosing which states get the ac parts first is nothing new for GM. The 99-02 model trucks had a problem where the abs sensor was getting rusted up and the only trucks that qualified for the recall were those in the norther states. I had to replace them on my own dime because TN was not considered to be a state where a lot of salt is used, guess they don't think us in the mountains get much snow?

I took mine in today, I thought it was something else, but nope.... Condenser...... $1400 and 25 days backorder. Why would a part be that backordered????? Maybe because the original part was faulty and everyone is having to replace it.

I can almost buy into that--more salt, more problems. I'm sure they had some documentation. This, however, is GM deciding how heat tollarant each of us is. We all bought vehicles with AC and we all deserve to be able to get it fixed. I'd prefer to use the shop that converted my husband's 89 Chev pick-ups AC. Good people, but they cannot get the part which is why I ordered it. What about cost? Can a good mom and pop shop do it cheaper? They are losing business because of GM and we consumers have little to no choice but to beg the almighty GM for a part. And that, my friend, is a violation of antitrust laws I believe.

I have talked to a few local Air Conditioning shops in all of them say that labor to do the install is right around 300 + 2-300 / parts.

Or roughly half the cost a dealer would probably make sense as I believe the current labor rate or shop time in Texas is $100 an hour.

It's got to be a nice little profit margin my friend is an ase-certified mechanic and only make 17 an hour

Even the aftermarket condensers for the 5.3 and 6.2 with the integral trans oil cooler are scarce as hen's teeth.

As for installation, I'd say the average backyard car mechanic should be able to replace one in 2-4 hours, not counting the system recharge. I removed mine to leak check it and when I couldn't find a replacement, I reinstalled it so I could drive the truck. The system recharge could be the more costly part.

Rock Auto has some on their site made by TYC if anyone is looking.

Looks like they changed the status to out of stock.

I called O'Reilley and they found one. I'm leak checking it now.

Not a terrible job to do yourself if you can find one. I did mine in 2 hours or so. These front ends are weird, it feels like everything is bolted in from behind.

    • I agree with Tim.  As tech heavy as engines are these days, no way I’d be an early buyer of the new 6.6.  Of course, I bought my ‘26 Denali w/the 6.2 after dumping my Tundra with it’s defective 3.5 liter imploding engine disaster, so I’m a little gun-shy.  That said, my 6.2 has been rock solid.  I don’t drive it like I do my BMW Z4 M40i, but I don’t baby it either.  I got a V8 for a reason.  But I’m averaging 18 around town and 22 highway.  I have seen 24 highway as well when I wasn’t loaded up heavy.  Considering my Tundra with the twin turbo V6 only got 14.5 in town and 17 on the road, I’ll take the 6.2 all day, every day.  If I were you, I’d grab a ‘26 while you can.  Inventories are probably gonna start dropping and I’ll bet the deals will start looking sweeter as well.
    • I am curious if anyone has figured out a way to add an hard button AUX or 360 Camera switch to the center row of switches. I have a 2021 AT4, and want to split the hill decent button and add a 360 camera button so that you don't have to go into the center display and locate the camera functionality, etc...   My father's 2024 Yukon XL AT4 and it has a hard button, see below. I found this thread on the Yukons, but it seems like there may not be a part number for the 2021 sierras. https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/255339-adding-hard-button-for-camera-on-2021/ Anyone else figured this out. Seems like it would need to be a custom switch!   I am getting ready to install the auto stop/start eliminator, so would be nice to knock them out at once.     Upvote1Downvote0Go to comments
    • Looks like the entire state is burning. 😬
    • Through the years it hasn't been my typical method as I tried to drop oil on an engine that was hot from having been worked, however that was not always practical and had to fire up a unit and let it warm up reasonably well and drop the oil when I had the time to do it but am referring to not only vehicles but a variety of farm equipment and highway tractors etc. However on a vehicle where one is crawling under it and the exhaust is nearby to ones body and if wanting to pull the plug without danger of being hit with boiling hot oil or attempting to remove a HOT oil filter, its sure safer and easier to not have everything smoking hot and can remove the filter right away when under the vehicle and let it all drain. Of course its not the end of the world if a bit of oil stays in the engine that might have eventually found its way out, I like to get out as much as possible but any oil changes that take place in shops would rarely be sitting around for very long at all before the plug is thrown back in and filter slapped on and oil poured in and sent out the door quick like. There would be very little time spent ( assuming they even did it ) in starting the engine with oil to fill the filter, then waiting to verify the level on the stick. A good reason to check ones oil level shortly after a shop changed the oil on a vehicle just to make sure its correct and to look under for any oil around the drain plug or filter.
