Radio upgrade

Hey guys just wanted to give a heads up for anyone else who might want to upgrade their radio. Alpine is giving a pretty huge discount on their restyle radio kits right now which usually runs at 4000$ for a 10" upgrade. Currently they're giving it out for 2500. If you have the Bose audio and want to keep it they now have a module for it at 500$

I just went in to my local alpine dealer and was able to put mine on layaway for just under 3000 including tax for both radio and the Bose module add on. They gave me the Bose module for 300 instead of 500. They have both restyle for chevy and Gmc for specific blue or red accent lighting.

And of course here is the link

Love Alpine. More unit than I would need. Down the road this MyLink on star my ass thing will be replaced. Worse system ever and you have to pay to use it.

Does it cut my grass, make my bed, and do my taxes? All for 1 low price of $2499 that's a good deal.

I could get an iPad and glue it to my current screen for $300

I have read a lot of reviews on this deck and it seems like there are still problems with integrating into the factory functions, annoying safety features and sluggish response times none of which would be acceptable in a deck that is basically in the top 5% of the market in terms of cost I would think it would be flawless

I looked into this a little bit, and for that price I’d expect some of the new features like CarPlay or android auto. It seems like this is a slightly older model. Not necessarily bad, but for the money, I’d probably look at the newer units that may not be a restyle kit. They’ll likely be faster, more compatible with newer devices and have the newest features.

It does look sweet though. If only they updated the internal hardware.

All good points plus those of us with floor console loose all of the USB plugs from the factory with the alpine unit. The head unit is awesome even with the flaws people have found. I'm sure you will love the upgrade from the stock head unit.

that's really not much of a deal, you can find those kits under 3 grand online all the time. I've never seen one sell at MSRP

Yeah, car stereo MSRP is hilariously overblown due to big box stores requiring comic margins. Best Buy, etc, need ~50%+ margin so they need to price it at $4,000. They probably sell it into them for about $2,000 or so. Meanwhile they sell it to distributors for $2,000, distributor adds another hundred or so, resells at $2,150 and then local car audio shop gets a handful. Sticker prices them at $2,999 ($1000 SAVINGS!) and will haggle down to $2500 or so plus, of course, the cost of installation and the accessory cables. They're willing to make 10% margin on the stereo as long as they keep making 80% margin on USB cables and XM Radio antennas and whatever else.

SIDENOTE: for those thinking about this unit, be aware it has one (!) USB port - and isn't compatible with the USB hub that's built into your truck. So the two USB ports in the center console storage and the three in the front dash won't work right with it.

And also, it is older software. Alpine has been using the same interface and nav software for over 7 years now. I'm wondering if a new version is going to be coming out soon since they just released a new radio with android auto and apple car play compatibility.

I'm a huge Alpine fan and don't find this radio a big enough improvement over the I06 radio to replace it. I03 I would for sure.
