Electric Vehicle

I hope this is the right place to post this; if not, my apologies.

I have a 2015 Silverado currently, but have been toying at buying an additional vehicle, as I drive lots for work. I've always been curious about the Chevy Volt/Bolt. One question I have is what kind of charger does it come with? I live in a condo, and installing a permanent charging station is out of the question. Is it possible to plug it into a regular wall socket? Obviously this would be much slower. The plus side is I'd be using this mostly for work, and most locations I go to have actual charging stations where I'd plug in. But don't want to be stuck if I do need to charge it, even partially, at home.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

It's likely you'll be able to search the vehicle data and/or ask the dealer about charge rates. You'll need to tell them residential (115v) circuit at either 20a or 15a (most likely). Does the car derate the amperage draw coming in (say, 80% max of available amps on a 15a circuit would deliver 12a)?

Then ask if the GFCI would be a problem (it frequently is with Tesla, but they're NOT the same as all the other PEVs out there). May not be an issue.

The question you need to answer is how many range-miles/hour of charging will be available for the duration you have it plugged in at home?

It's really cool. It's really efficient/inexpensive to operate. The $7500 Federal tax credit is starting to wind down...

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know there was a Federal credit for it; I was aware of a provincial one ($5,000 in BC). Most of the time it wouldn't be plugged in at home; it would be charging more at work. Luckily there's charging stations all over the place where I live. Plus the Volt has a gas engine as well, so I'm less concerned versus a fully electric car.

I'm caught on how efficient these are to operate, so that's why I'm looking more into it. May be worth a trip to the dealership who would know of all the incentives and such as well.

Appreciate your info!

You're welcome.

1st, I didn't pay attention, even as I've seen your "name" a bunch. For me, Federal is US$ credit. Sorry.

2nd, I missed the hybrid part (though I have driven the Volt a few times.). My error.

"PEV" is plug-in electric vehicle.

So for PEVs all that info above is applicable.

I'm going to bed. Goodnight everybody.

I took a volt from work for a couple days, you can plug it into the wall and it's only electric for the first 77km (distance not speed) don't know about any of your other questions.

If your drive is far everyday, they sell a Cruze diesel and I believe that it is 52 miles per the gallon.

I haven't driven on but it sounds good.

No problem. I initially read your location as "Mississauga" so I thought you were from Canada lol
