2010 Silverado 5.3 AFM disabled from 125k

I was talking to my manager about his truck and he asked me if I wanted to buy it from him. He has a clean Chevy Silverado Texas edition LTZ. He changes oil every 3k and stays on top of the truck. It has one small dent in the tailgate. He has a diablo trinity programmer that he installed at 125k when he bought it. It has 166,000 miles on it now. The truck is in perfect condition but would I have any problems with the lifters or anything since the AFM/DOD is deleted? He told me he will sell it to me for $17k. I know the 5.3's are good engines but is this the same 5.3 as the older just with some more electronics and a few little upgrades?

It's good that the AFM was turned off as soon as it was. If he was not having oil usage problems at 125k miles, and it is not using oil or having lifter noise now, that truck must be one of the relatively few good ones. If you trust him and it's a good truck, it will probably be ok. Just keep in mind that the AFM lifters are still there and can fail at any time.

when I test drove it I popped the hood and I didn't hear any ticking. He said he has no oil usage problems and has not the entire time he has owned the truck. I had a 06 duramax before I bought my Accord. That duramax would drip oil and coolant. I had far more problems with the truck so I sold it with 240k. This truck looks like it's been taken care of

Disregard the afm question, 17k for a 7 yr old truck with 166k is way to much money I don't care how well he took care of it.

Personally I wouldn't buy or sell a car from or to a co-worker, family member or close friend.

In some cases it can put some strain on the relationship...

17K WOW, Go to kbb.com and check it out that same truck around here goes for about $12,000 on the high side. That's way and I mean way too much money for that truck.

Well I started the truck up again today and popped the good. There is a slight tick. Doesn't really become greater when you rev but maybe I just can't here it enough. Everything else looks great on the truck. No leaks under the truck and it does not burn oil
