When I start my truck up and turn on my headlights, my headlights will NOT come on. My high beam indicator comes on on the dash and moving the high beam switch does nothing to turn it off. My DTRL's come on though. After driving a few miles my high beam indicator goes off and my headlights come on. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening and what can I do to fix it? I had to drive to work for 6 miles before my headlights came on in the rain this morning.

sounds like an issue with the photocell on the dash (if I remember correctly the 99 had automatic headlights). the switch should override that photocell no matter what though. try covering up the photo cell completely making sure theres no light and see what happens

Try moving light switch between off/on a few times,, very fast..

If this does not fix,, try same in garage (with engine off) to verify sensor is working, if one is on dash..

Had 96 Tahoe with same problem due to age of switch and internal contacts going bad..

Eventually replaced switch and all was OK...

My 99 does not have automatic lights. My truck is all manual. I will try turning the headlights on and off very fast and see if that does anything. Thanks.
