First time ever left stranded along the road.

So last night picked up my new 17 Hot Red custom Silverado and drove it approx. 10 miles to a resturaunt , upon leaving when I started the truck it was showing several error things on the screen and engine light came on, ABS light came on and off several times, gauges was going up and down so I thought I would take it back over to the dealer. I made it about 100 yards and it made a huge clunking noise and then acted like the tranny was slipping. It would try to go a little bit but mostly just revving up so I pulled over and they came with a flat bed to get us and go back to the dealer. This morning I have a rental car and the truck is in the shop.

Dayum!

Good luck. What a disappointment, having it on the first night and this.

WOW, Only time I have ever seen this was when my parents bought a new Ford Granada back in 76. i Hope they get it back to you soon.

So update is, they said it was fine this morning that the voltage was low from sitting and they charged it up good and ran it around town and was fine. I personally don't buy it cause I know when a battery is low but I figure it's new and under warranty . I leave for vacation in a week and just hope it's ok on that trip. What do you do when your away and something happens ? Take it to the nearest Chevy dealer ?

It does sound like an electrical problem. All of those systems failing at once. Almost sounds like the bad ground issue under the dash. Not sure if the fixed that with the 2017's.

That doesn't make sense because if your truck was running so was the alternator and it should have been charging the battery.

Yes, you can go to any Chevy dealer in the US.

If you want to know if the battery is fully charged I suggest this.

After sitting over knight to let the battery stabilize, open a door so the dome lights come on to take the static charge off the battery. Check battery voltage at battery posts with DVM, should be 12.5 volts minimum.

Any Chevy/GM dealership in Canada/United States will look at it. And depending on where you're heading, there shouldn't be an issue finding one of these. Hopefully all is good now; it's odd that it magically got better. Always seems to be the case when you take anything in to have fixed... It always seems to have fixed itself when the experts go to look at it.

Anyways, I hope you have a safe road trip and all works out well.

Sucks to see this happened on the first night!! Did the Dealer at least install a new battery if the original one got discharged? If I were you, I'd drive it around town before your vacation just to ensure that it is running fine.

We've been running it everywhere since we got it back and it seems to be fine, knock on wood.

Check your negative battery cable at the battery, mine was loose on my 16. There have been some on here that had a lot of what you were describing due to their negative battery cable being loose at the battery. Worth a shot.

A stated, once the engine is running, the alternator becomes primary electrical power source.

Hope you have good road-side towing assistance coverage.

Having a good battery is essential in this day and age. If something is wrong with it, even if the vehicle is running, you'll have trouble. Way back in the day you could operate a vehicle with a bad battery or no battery if you jumped it, but not anymore. If you try driving your truck without a battery, it'll die. So much computer crap on these vehicles now a days.

    • Hi all - my current truck is a 2022.5 1500 High Country 3.0. I bought the truck used last year. After doing some digging, I noticed that my truck's software is stuck on the original build from 2022. I have no available software updates. I talked to my dealer about this and they recommended not trying to force an update since the 36,000 mile warranty is expired. This is a big bummer since there have been many major releases since that have fixed small issues and improved speed/usability.   For reference, the current software build number is: full_gminfo37_gb-user 10 W158E-W164.4.2-QIH22B-563.3 158 release-keys Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I just forget about it and move on, or try a different dealer?
    • Sure. Buy it for me 🤣
    • Using zip ties but 2-3 they snap due to sharp edges. Just using a shoestring. Last longer. 🤣
    • I ordered the Snap On...waiting for it to come in later this week or early next week.   New front cover, new crank seal and new balancer are on. Water pump, pulley, fan, hoses, and plastics reinstalled. I can move forward knowing all my timing marks are dead on and the front engine is hopefully sealed better than it was. Take 2 with the water pump...trying high temp thread sealer on the lower bolts.   Rebuilt injector and new-new regulator is in, it looks like new. Top intake reassembled and all the bits are reconnected and snugged down.   Thinking about knock sensors again, I located both of mine and, there's your problem, Francis... The driver's side one is broke, plastic is bashed in, part of the wire is bare, and it appears to have been damaged like that for a long time. I saw the wire but didn't think anything of it. The knock sensor might not be my pulled timing issue, but it sure looks suspect. It must still be conducting, otherwise I'd expect a CEL. But perhaps with its sacred crystal inside exposed, jilted and dirty, maybe it's sending mixed signals. So I'm waiting for one of those and a new pigtail to come in. Pass side sensor looks good, except for the spark plug wire resting on it (!). The plug wires are healthy so it shouldn't be causing an issue, but I separated them and added zip ties to nearby looms to keep everything well apart.   So, I'm down to installing a knock sensor AND, oh, replacing the exhaust and cat. I actually think that's going to be fairly easy, it's all bolt-together, all new stuff from Walker is laid out on the shop floor ready to go. Hopefully have this thing on the road again for the weekend.   My luck? It will still be leaking oil, coolant, pulled timing, intermittent CEL for running rich, or it probably won't run at all -- because that's how this project has gone.   I've never worked on a vehicle so ...hurt? ...cursed? in my life. Everything has been effed with SO HARD, but I think...knock on wood...I've managed to undo all the backyard stuff and we're almost reset back to "just" an 80k mile, 30 year old Blazer.
