Can I take a 5.7 liter long block from a 1996 Tahoe and use it in my 1993 k1500? It also has a 5.7 liter in it. I know the complete engine won't interchange. 1993 is OBD 1 and 1996 is OBD 2. Just wondering about the long block, if the distributors will interchange due to the cam, etc. Thanks.

Should be the same, as I did a similar swap with the 4.3 V6, except I canned the electronics and went with an HEI distributor and an Edelbrock carburetor.

 

The intake manifolds are TOTALLY different. Easiest way to make it work is to throw a HEI distributor in there, and run a carburetor, IMO. I know this generation is dead set against that, but it works for me, and works damn well.

 

I don't know if they make a TBI intake manifold for that Vortec 5.7 .

Thanks. That's what I needed to know before I started. If the intake off my 93 would bolt up, if the distributor would work from the 93, etc. Thanks
