Headlight Interior sensr

Hey guys,

I've been having issues with my HID setup. Didn't do enough research and installing the wiring harness this weekend.

This post however is due to something else I noticed. I noticed my headlights are always on in auto, even during the day. I'm thinking my sensor is bad inside. When I checked I you d it to be loose and setting lower than I think it should be. I can actually push it down with my finger with no force being applied so something is definitely up. Has anyone gotten access to one of these before? Holding I don't have to remove entire top dash...

Also is the sensor facing towards you or away from you? Mine is facing inward toward me but I feel it should be facing the windshield.

Thanks!

Your low beams SHOULD be on all the time even in the "Auto" setting.  They are the DRL's on your truck and it is designed to work this way.

+1 your headlights are always on unless you flick the knob to turn them off EVERY time you start your vehicle. I modified it and took the spring out so the knob can remain in the off position

If the headlights are on but no taillights, then the running lights are "off" and you have DRLs; of the headlights and taillights are both on, then the running lights are "on".

in at least the K2's the headlight bulbs are always on unless you turn them off. the tail light bulbs are only on when the light sensor switches them on in auto, or on when you manually turn the lights on

Thanks for the feedback guys.  That seems like such a waste to have your headlights on during the day.  Not sure why new cars are designed with that but oh well.  That's a great idea to modify the switch. I will look into that.  I guess since my sensor is working then I will just leave it.  Still find it odd how it is loose and I can press it down easily...

its been proven to dramatically reduce the number or collisions. I personally dont like them on, and its just wear and tear on the bulbs. the modification of the switch took a whole 10 minutes (and i was taking my time). Theres a video on youtube that I followed

Wait, having headlights on in the middle of the day, when the sun is shining bright, is proven to "dramatically" reduce collisions?  I believe you since I'm assuming you have seen these studies but wow, that sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?  Or maybe it's just me lol...

I'll google the video, thanks for the tip!  Seems like it will be an easy fix.  Right now I have my HIDs installed but with no relay harness.  So I constantly have one light failing.  If I turn my blinker or sometimes just fails on it's own.  I'm assuming that is because I don't have the relay harness and there is a low voltage issue .  In my opinion though the capacitor should be sufficient to allow for a draw of multiple components.  Unless it wasn't designed correctly....

lol you wouldn't think it would, but it does reduce the amount of accidents. That's beside the point. I'm not sure about your HID issue, but can say that if you dont want to flick your knob (hehehe) every time you start your truck to turn the lights off, you can modify it

It sounds like your sensor is working correctly but if you are worried about it being loose it is easy to check:

1)  Remove both A-pillar trims (they just clip on or are held with 2 bolts if they have a grab handle).

2)  There is a seam near the front of the dash running left to right.  Get a trim tool under there and it will pop up (also just clipped on).

3)  Near the sensor be careful since it has a wire.  Flip the front dash piece over and you can get to the sensor and plug.

That's it!

Excellent, I will give it a go this weekend.  It is definitely loose.  Thanks!

It is pretty significant how much more visible a vehicle is when the headlights are on...and to add, the idiots in dark gray cars that don't know how to use headlights when it's raining. Just look at motorcycles, with and without...without, they are hard to see in certain conditions.

I always was against them, this truck is the first that had them (most Dodges in the US don't have the feature enabled), and I don't mind them. It will burn the bulbs out faster, I wish they had a dedicated assembly for DLRs.
