Painting Door Molding

What has been everyone's process on having their Door Molding Trim painted? I want to have mine color-matched as all the Denali's have Chrome for that piece now. Only issue is it doesn't appear that the Mineral Metallic color is available on anything other than the Denali so my odds of finding any of these body-colored to start is slim-none.

Does it make more sense to pick up some used Chrome/Black/Other color molding and have that painted and then carefully remove my brand new Chrome trim to sell, or is there not much of a market for that among our owners? Any advice is appreciated!

Look into Anthracite Gray PlastiDip. Your color looks very similar. With the new formula of AutoFlex you may be able to get the change you want with minimal work and no removal of trim.

If you dont like it just peel it off. PlastiDip has come a long way since the days of flat black spray cans. Check out www.dipyourcar.com for more info

Remove the chrome and get someone elses that was painted/primed.  I'm color matching the front end and have learned this is the only way for it to truly look good and hold up.

I’m thinking the problem with that will be finding any trim color matched to Mineral Metallic. I believe the color is only available on the Denalis and that all Denalis have chrome door mouldings..

This truck is incredible. Almost exactly what I'm trying to do! Granted they've got it listed for about $8,000 more than I paid for mine and it has 1,500mi on it already, but the overall look is perfect. Do you know if this is just a front level and whether or not those wheels are OEM and if they're 22s?? I'm thinking of calling the dealership to see how they did everything if they'll tell me.

As far as leaving the moldings off.. I don't think so. Without some fender flares or something I'm afraid it would leave the door skins looking too barren. Like it almost needs something there to break it up or I'm just so used to seeing trucks with them it looks weird with them off unless it's like a slammed show truck or something lol.

The other thing for me to keep in mind is that these moldings are meant to serve a purpose too. I'm not sure the percentage of situations they actually cover since it depends on the other vehicle, but they're meant to take the brunt of a door-ding from another opening door rather than creasing the door skin, which would REALLY suck to have happen!

To answer your question in the other post, I don't know anything about the truck. I just did a Google image search for "mineral metallic sierra" and it came up.

I get the concern on function of the mouldings, but then why are they an option or on higher level trims for Tahoes? LT doesnt have them by default.

I was concerned with removing them on my Silverado, so bought some painted ones to replace the chrome. After I had them off, I liked the look and ended up selling both the chrome and painted. Thats what lead me to the Google search, hoping to show you what it would look like. I can share a pic of mine, but its white and a Silverado.

I agree with martha3065 that these trucks look sharp without the molding.  The times they will save you from any potential ding or dent are rare.  However, I personally prefer some chrome trim and would leave it factory.

Noted, appreciate the input! Donstar, I guess that's one of those personal preference things that people have seemed to disagree on for ages now. There's plenty of team "No Chrome" and team "More Chrome" out there as well as those in the middle with the "less is more" philosophy. I've seen some good looking trucks that would fall into all of these options lol

Exactly! Leave it,  paint it or remove it.  All great options!

Called the dealership. This was a truck that the Sales Manager drove himself as a Demo and is now selling. All the paintwork was done by a shop across the street from the Dealership. It's a great looking truck, but this 2017 is being sold as having a "Platinum Sierra Pkg." which doesn't exist. That's just the $7,400 they're adding on for all that custom paint work, wheels, tires, level, exhaust, etc.

So unfortunately that looks like it confirms my suspicions that this color is not available on anything other than the Denali and that the Denalis ALL come with Chrome trim only. Looks like having this piece painted or removed entirely are my only two options!
