Possible to add NAV?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at buying a used 15 GMC Sierra SLT.  It does not have NAV.  Is there a simple way to add it?  I know my friends 15 Ford F150 simply needed one line of code changed and the nav disk loaded in.

Does anyone have any advice for what to look for when I go see it next week?

It can be done, but it’s super expensive for some “not so great” navigation. My old truck had a Pioneer z2 and the navigation was great. I just use my phone now. Lol.

I concur with the above.

i have the factory nav, and wasted $140 ‘upgrading’ to the 2018 version a few weeks ago, only to discover it is at the very least, 2 years outdated.

if you really want nav, either get the upgraded radio from that location no providded, that has ‘Projection’ and use your phone for nav, get an after market nav/gps.

Can I project Google Maps to my GMC everything-but-nav screen?

Yes (I believe) if your radio has the projector app, which wasn’t avail for my suburban until mid to late 2015.

. For me to get that, I would have to upgrade my radio, to which I can’t justify the cost .

I use my phone now in my old truck.  Good to know the factory nav still sucks and isn't worth worrying about.

you're better off updating the HMI module to one that does Apple car play / Android auto

The NAV in my 2014 was horrible. I had done the MVI CarPlay w/NAV upgrade & it made quite an improvement to the factory NAV. I think it brought it up to 2016 software w/the latest maps. The modules were dated 2017.

Despite having CarPlay, I’m still a Google Maps guy as I feel it works better than both the factory NAV & Apple maps. I’ll likely use an old Android that I have laying around & tether it to my iPhone’s data and use the Google Maps via Android Auto.
