Looking at buying '15 CC, 6.2 Max Tow, thoughts?

My '15 Silverado DC 5.3, 6 spd, 3.08 LT is leased. Lease is up in 2 months.  Buyout is $24,000, truck is in pretty good shape but I'd really rather have a crew cab.  Dealer near me has '15 Silverado Crew LTZ, with the 6.2L, 8spd , Max Tow , factory 20" wheels (I am assuming this by the fact it has the 6.2L and the tow mirrors), has 30,000 miles on it, priced at $34,000.  Truck pretty much has everything I want except it is a bench seat which I could swap out if it came to it.  Can't seem to touch a newer one for anything less than low-mid 40's used or 50K new or used trucks are mine and have a lot more miles.  I don't tow anything, just want the power.  Thoughts?

Saw the Carfax report. It is a GM buy back vehicle.  Customer complaints about the 8 spd transmission.  What exactly was so bad with these transmissions?

Well I have a opinion on that.  I had a 2015 Silverado 6 speed 5.3. Traded and bought a 2017 Max tow 6.2 8 speed to tow my rv. I read all the trans problems they had ( mostly shift issues) and waited to 17 to get one.  Love the truck but developed a shutter, vibration low speeds. Terrible when towing. Ah I thought,  needs a tq and flush according to bulletin. Well 3 tq later and a trans the problem has gotten worse. Truck has sat at dealer for 30 Days waiting for district rep and Field engineer to figure out. Yes I am way beyond Lemon Law ( I was a factory rep for another auto company ) so I know how it works. Love the truck hoping it can be fixed before I send demand letter.  It seems with the stiffer frame vibrations are more prevalent. Millions out there with no problems but imo the 8 speeds create the most problems. That’s my rant and I’ll go away quietly ???

I was about to say price seems fair if not a tad high. Then I saw the buy back about the trans.

No, just no

Instead of leasing.

Buy from laura gmc, or anywhere you can find their pricing, drive for 3 years, sell private party, rinse repeat. Can drive a new truck every couple years for like the equivalent of $150/month

If your current truck is trouble free, I believe you'd be better off to buy it at the end of your lease.  A used buy back is not worth $10K more of debt, imo.

Truckguy82, confronted the dealer on this, they said it got a new trans in Sept 2017.   I'd be ok with that.

Donstar, Were you talking to my wife?  Exactly what she said.  Only thing I would be gaining with a different truck would be going to a CC from the DC.  I can count on one hand number of times anyone road in the back seat of my DC.  Reality is, I have the 2500HD LT that I drive daily.  Now that's a truck.  Sounds like a truck, drives like a truck, really gotten used to the power of the 6.0 with 3.73 gears.  The '15 is washed and parked in the garage.

My 40+ years of marriage is showing.......   If there was more of a significant difference to justify the increase in debt load,  you may have better home support.  Another thought that came to mind is that debt isn't as worrisome when you have the assets to comfortably balance it if problems arise.  Your proposed purchase will not increase the value of your assets by $10K.  It is the increasing unsecured debt that will bite you later.  (BTW "Later" does come!)

Truth is, I have done very well, do have assets, but do not like to spend money freely, some will call me a scrounge, others recognize it as frugal.  That's why I am considering a used truck instead of running out and dropping $50K on a new one.

Great!  You have a tremendous advantage because you've driven/known one of your prospective purchases since new.  This combined with it being significantly less expensive makes your current truck the most frugal and prudent choice!
