After around 750 miles of installing the Borla S Type catback exhaust system and the Range disabler my gas mileage has increased by 1.3 MPG'S. All of my driving is in town too. I think the increase is more due to the new exhaust though. I haven't really been racing around to listen to it much either . 

Heading up to the cabin on Sunday to put the dock in so I'm going to check and see how much better it is on the highway. It's about 100 miles north of where I live and the speed limit is mostly 60mph so we'll see what happens .

Just installed one in my 2018 Tahoe. No CEL, better throttle response. Overall truck feels great. I am running the latest version 8.6 R1

I just bought one and plugged it into my 2017 GMC Sierra 1500, EcoTec V8 5.3.

 

I've driven it for a day and can already see the improvement. I already knew what to expect, as I have been driving mostly in M5 for the past few weeks.

 

I've owned the truck since new, and the subtle "hiccup" when moving into V4 at low speeds has always bothered me. The hesitation when you hit the throttle and move back to V8 also annoyed me. Mostly, it was in certain low-speed situations (parking lots, and particular intersections) where the typical conditions would cause the AFM to get confused, and in turn, cause the transmission to get confused. It would cycle back and forth between V4 and V8 at intervals of less than 30 seconds and cause the transmission to shift back and forth. Its subtle, but noticeable enough to be annoying. If you have passengers, you can see their heads snap gently back and forth as the truck has its moment of schizophrenia and the inertia of the truck shifts. With M5, and now with the Range device, most of these problems have gone away and the truck is smoother than I ever though it would be. 

 

On the highway, the AFM never bothered me. In fact at high speeds, I never noticed it. I might pull the Range out for longer trips and let AFM do its thing.

 

I've never experienced oil consumption issues. However, I would like to tune up my idle speed a bit. It surges when the engine is warm, and idling below 500 RPM (when the engine is warm). This really annoys me. For this reason, I'll probably do a full tune once my powertrain warranty is up.

 

I'll report back in a few months.

Had my range afm dissabler in 3 months now,oil consumption has dropped drastically,1500miles on oil ch and still showing full on dipstick

I'd be curious to hear from you guys who have had one in on a 2015+ truck for awhile and how the Range is working.

 

I'm thinking about getting one for my 2016 Suburban to avoid AFM related lifter issues down the road.

Had mine for a few years now and it is definitely worth the price if a tuner is not an option because of warranty.Cylinder deactivation can be really annoying to drive with IMO.One thing about the modules though is they discharge the battery ever so slightly anytime they are left plugged in.That being said even after having the truck sit weeks at a time with the module in it never gave me a starting problem until 3 years in when the battery would no longer take a charge.Warranty covered the battery ofcourse and I still use and love the module but its just something to be aware of if your vehicle sits for long periods of time

Just came back from being away with the truck sitting a week in cold weather. No problems starting. Range was plugged in all along. Great purchase.

I've had mine in my 2018 5.3 for 18,000 miles now. Works as advertised. All V8 all the time. Mileage unaffected if anything it got slightly better.

The afm is a waste if you ask me.

k well i didnt buy a 60 thousand dollar full size truck for it to run on 4 cylinders.

Welcome to this forum!  You will find a lot of useful information on this site!.  You have responded to an older thread but there may be new interest in this topic from others.  My point of view is that when I spend 60K on a vehicle, I would expect it to have the latest technologies.  My current truck is a V6 and it spends a lot of time in V4.  I've pulled travel trailers and carried heavy loads during my past five years of ownership.  Unlike the vegetable juice commercial,  I've never said, "I wish I had a V8" ?

I, as well, am a V6 owner who has gone to some lengths to keep it in V4 mode and been rewarded with a 28 mpg average for over 130K miles. I still have near 300 hp on tap when I want it. More than enough for the touring service I use it for. ?

    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here. 
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken. 
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
