Hi Guys,

i am looking to find new headlights for my 2014 Chevy Silverado. Right now they have the chrome surround. I am looking to get the look of the 2015 Silverado sport package with painted surround to match the color. I have a silver truck. Grill and front bumper if you can.

Send me ideas.

Instead of looking into new replacement parts, why not just paint them?

If you don't have the means to do so, I'm sure you can find a body shop to paint the parts.

Hi, I have tried to get them painted. The problem is you can't paint chrome. You can, but it won't last. That is what the body shops told me.

Thanks.

You can paint chrome with base coat of self etching primer and applying multiple layers .  It won’t last if they just spray a quick base prime, color, and clear since there is little to grab on to,  but if they do it right it should last as long as the other stuff on the front of your truck that is at risk for rock chips.

If your truck color is black, look int plasti dip flat black and then clear (matches very well from past experience).  Or vinyl wrap them.

Vinyl wrap. There is many posts on here about it and all the pics I’ve seen look good. Most everyone says buy a good vinyl and it holds up. Should be able to find a color that will be close to matching color wise somewhere I saw a pic on here of a silver truck that had the grille wrapped.

My problem is matching it exactly, and finding someone to vinyl wrap it perfect. In really particular with my truck.

The body shop I went to, GM authorized told me they would paint it for $300 (that was including my grille) but they couldn't gaurentee the paint. Help :(

Actually yes it is. But this thread just found it again.

Because of peeling/flaking or chips if it chips what about a clear wrap after paint that will be what you’ll likely want to do next anyway if you read other threads on here. I’d try some other body shops try to find one that either does restorations or custom stuff. At least the plastics should be able to be painted. I believe there is a product that strips the “chrome” off of plastic so it can be painted. I’ve seen plenty of older cars with painted once chromed bumpers that I’m assuming get stripped at the chrome plating shop then sent to paint?

The plastics shouldn't be a problem. It's an issue with chrome. I'll take it around to other places and see what they can do. Ya, may have to clear wrap it after the vinyl if I go that route.

Sand the chrome, etch primer and base/clear away.  I'd recommend putting some 3m clear bra on top to preserve the finish.  It's not about the paint chipping on the chrome, its about the thin paint that has to be used from the EPA.  Older trucks never had the paint problems like we have today.
