Buying Advice

I'm currently in the market for a used/new silverado. Looking at white, CC 4x4 LT with the jet black interior.

I need to be $39k out the door or under as that is my Max budget. I've contacted a few dealers to get prices and most are coming in $37-$39k before taxes and fees for a 2018 model.

My question is, would it be better/more cost effective to for me to wait until memorial day to see if I can get a lower price than what they are currently quoting me? Or will savings not differ much between now and then?

This is my first vehicle purchase so just want to make sure I do it right.

TIA

Do more than call, go on down and talk with them. Tell them your situation. They have a bottom line, and you have yours. If they see you are about to walk out for just a few dollars, they may be willing to deal. Won't know till you try. They may even call you in a day or two if they can't make the deal that day. Deals are out there. http://www.quirkchevy.com/inventory/2018-chevrolet-silverado-1500-lt-4wd-crew-cab-pickup-3gcukrec5jg324092

Wow that's a great price! I am planning on going into the dealers to talk to the internet/fleet managers I've been in contact with. Just wanted to check in advance for some advice.

Too bad that ones not in southern California, otherwise I'd hop on it!

Expand your search outside your local dealers. I drove 5 hours to pickup my truck. Everyone here where asking MSRP and they wouldn't budge. That 5 hour drive saved me about $6000.

Give Rotolo Chevy a look, I've heard they give good deals.

The truck your looking for is nothing special, what I mean is it’s a common color combo in the most popular body configuration with probably the most common option package so it shouldn’t demand a premium and they should be willing to deal more on one. Don’t know what ratio 2wd vs 4wd is in Cali but I bet there’s more 4wds out there than I think. I bought my 15 CC LT 4wd All Star for 35.5 new in Oct of 15 sticker was 45.5 with tax 7% and 1 year registration total was just shy of 38.5. I just happened to find it cruising through the lot in the town I work after work one day it was marked in grease pen on the windshield 10k off went home looked on their web site it was 42-43 somewhere in there. If I’d just looked at the site like I had been I would have passed on this one like all the others. Mine had been sitting on the lot for awhile and apparently it was time to move it as the 16s were starting to roll in. I’d bet you’ll see this again as the 19s start to roll in. I think to get the best deal being as proactive as you can, willing to possibly compromise, and willing to travel some always nets you the better deals. Sometimes that means being face to face to show your a real buyer and willing to walk away if they won’t meet your needs I have and know a couple guys that have done this and either as your walking away or later on they will.

Put it out for tender. Create a 'must have' spec list on your proposed truck & put in in an email along with any other pertinent info;

Model year

Model

Chassis

Cab style

Trim level

Colors ext and int.

Seat styles

List of specific options etc. Be specific on this. This way, the tender responses will be apples to apples.

Email the tender out to about 10-12 local dealers. Say clearly on the email that it the tender is going out to a number of dealers & they'll only have one chance on the tender, so the lowest OTD price will have the best chance to get the sale.

See what prices they come up with. It might surprise you.

Don't say what your max budget is or give any indication of that on the email, or any other communications, else that's what you'll end up paying, if not more.

Have your baseline requirements but be a little flexible on the options available. NEVER let the dealership know that you are in love with a specific truck because they won't budge, knowing you really want THAT one.

Also, go in person and be willing to spend some time to haggle. Tell them your intent and if they can't meet it, walk. Don't just threaten to walk, actually leave.... Trust me, they will call you back within a few days with a better deal than they said on the first day.

When I bought mine, I waited a LONG time until I found the one I wanted within a pricerange I was looking for. I was in the market for a lightly used truck (<30k miles). I ended up finding one in almost new condition with 14k miles and haggled the price a few thousand under original asking price.

The longer you wait , the better the deals will become.  If you wait too long. the truck you want may not be available.  Buying a vehicle can be very stressful and you'll always think you could have done a little better.  I often hear and read about the great deals others have received and thought I wouldn't have bragged about that or this is BS.  As suggested earlier, if you disclose your max budget, that's what they'll be their target.   "And for a little more...."        Contrary to other's recommendations,  I find that it is not a problem to show your excitement over a particular truck.   Showing a lukewarm commitment to a vehicle, I believe, will not result in getting the bottom line.  I find that the more confident the sales team is on a potential sale, the more effort will be made to close the deal.

You’d have to shovel that one out at Quirk Chevrolet after the 18” of snow we got last night! Lol!
