2018 Silverado 3500 high country parking assists quit working 3 weeks old disgusted with is truck already . Dealers website and Chevys say this truck is suppose to have tire pressure monitoring it doesn't  false advertising no gauge for the def  thinking about a 4 letter work next time FORD

I understand this is a rant, but I'm having heartburn reading this and I'm extremely confused.

A. If parking assist isn't working on a new truck, that's easy warranty work.

B. If it's a high country, chances are that you have TPMS. It's all digital in the center guage cluster.

C. "Dealers website and Chevys"..... All trucks come with TONS of different options that you can add/delete. So you're telling me that you bought a $60k truck without looking at packages/options or even a window sticker??

1. For the park assist, that's why there's a warranty.

2. It's a 1-ton diesel. TPMS isn't required on vehicles above 10k GVWR, so you may not have it. It stinks that you were mislead, but if I was dropping that much money on a truck, I'd best be sure it was what I wanted it to be.

3. DEF gauge is probably in the DIC

4. :chill: (:

Time for a dealer visit.  If you aren't familiar with the DIC display and settings,  ask here.  You can add-subtract what screens scroll thru from a list.  I may be wrong, but parking assist may be in the selectable list as well.

Fyi, the radar has issues with ice. Very common for it to give false warnings when it’s cold out.

I had an issue with my 2016 Sierra 1500, DIC said to service park assist system intermittently, my truck only has the rear sensors. Finally took it to the dealer when my stabilitrak stopped working and I lost the steering angle and incline readings on my off road screen. Turned out to be a broken wire leading to the BCM. Of course the truck was out of warranty so it cost a pretty penny but since the wiring was fixed a few months ago I haven’t had any issues with the rear park assist (even with snow and sleet build up on the sensors) or any other functions. The dealer is pretty sure that there was at least a crack in the wire from the factory.

My 2016 Silverado High Country park assist is malfunctioning. Sensor and display shows something at right front passenger side when nothing is there. Truck is clean and sensors are clear. It only seems to do it in cold weather. The dealer had it for 3 days the first time and 5 days the second time. They replaced the computer and sensors to no avail. Why is it still misreading/ malfunctioning? Very frustrating. I would rather not have them if they aren't going to work right.

This may sound stupid but was there a car ahead of you to the right at all (I know you said nothing there, but maybe where normally it wouldn’t pick it up) like maybe at a stop light? I ask because on cold days, when I’m sitting in traffic and a car that is still warming up putting out a lot of steam/exhaust (you know when you start your car when it’s cold and clouds of exhaust gas billows out) out, my sensors pick it up. Happens on both sides just depends on where they are sitting. My sensors would not pick up the actual vehicle, just the foggy mess coming out the back of their car like in the picture...I know it’s a long shot but figured I’d at least share my experience. The sensors never fail or give false warnings except when they pick up this exhaust from a car slightly ahead of me on either side.

Any chance they have checked to see if the camera in your rearview mirror housing (Front Collision Alert/Lane Departure) is still good? At this point I would have them check everything before you warranty expires.

Not a bad call, they will pick up cars in front of you, cars going through the intersection, and so on. Most times I think they designed them after the Munster's episode when they trapped Grandpa as a bat and thought he was drunk flying around, because his sonar did not work so well.

They went through everything and the warranty is up. Nothing in front or on the side when it goes off.

How far out of warranty, and were the repairs done under the bumper to bumper? if so, open a claim and let them know the problem still exists.

    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
