Tail light swap

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

This is my first post on here and I saw some pictures of the ltz/high country trucks and their tail  lights. My truck is a 17 custom so it's got the full led front end and looks sharp! However the tail lights are halogen and while I know it's a lower trim package to me it kind of defeats the looks of the front and I would love to know if the LED tail lights fit or trucks with the halogen lights?

There’s a thread on this already. They will fit, but you’ll need either a custom harness or resistors added to the assemblies so they won’t hyper flash. You have the custom, if you look closely, you’ll notice the LTZ/High Country headlights are different as well. Many have swapped them because they are much nicer looking. I swapped mine. Sold my existing headlights on eBay to afford the upgrade. I went with aftermarket tail lights. You’ll notice the differences. Same truck, but many add ons later....

The LED’s in the last picture appear to be inop, they work, the frame rate of the camera is too slow to capture the LED’s. The flash so fast to the human eye they appear to be solid.

What is the difference in the head lights? After looking at yours it looks like the only difference minus the fog lamps is the lower LED bar.

Yep, the lower LED is actually a switchback turn signal as well. The Headlight bulbs are LED as well instead of HID in the other models, and the styling is different surrounding the headlight lens.

OK because I know my turn signals are yellow halogen and I had the HID main lights. Didn't know the higher models had LED main lights I thought they were all HID.

You can also swap your headlights to the LTZ headlights.  I converted my taillights to the LTZ style led lights.  Just find you a set of taillights and get a harness to convert them.  Or you can install your own load resistors to stop hyper flash but you will have to cut the harness.  I went with a plug and play harness.  You could contact a member on here, he is @pgamboa. He will sell you the harness so it will be a plug and play swap. You can find the taillights on ebay, just make sure they come with the factory harness. I also bought the LTZ headlights to swap my LT headlights out, just haven't got around to doing it.  Best of luck to you.

Thanks! Not really looking to do headlights as well since they are HID and have LED strip on the bottom, just wanted something in the rear that looks as good as the front.

What aftermarket tail lights did you go with?
