You really need to talk to your insurance agent about diminished value as laws are different in almost all states. Some states it’s as easy as asking for it some states your SOL. Most insurance companies aren’t just going to say “HEY here is more money out of our pocket for you” you’ll find insurance companies have no problem taking your money even if your giving to much but when it’s time to give back the money it’s never enuff.

Insurance companies are a business. They enjoy collecting premiums but pull out all the stops when it’s time to pay out.

Jokes or not, I’d definitely talk about the diminished value. He’s not wrong in that your trucks value goes down with the carfax hit. Even if it’s only $500 you’re not stealing it from anyone. They hit you. They damaged your property. The damage isn’t just metal and paint. Nobody’s saying to make a fraudulent medical claim, just get compensation for how you are actually affected. There’s adjusters who calculate the diminished value. Or, you can walk into a dealer and hypothetically trade your truck in and see what the value with and without a minor accident on the record. Most wont get involved with giving you paperwork and such, but sometimes you’ll get enough info to know if they’re screwing you.

 

Of course, this was just a small dust up. It won’t be much for diminished value if you decide to pursue it. The most important part, since nobody’s hurt, is getting your truck back to 100%.
