What's going to happen in about 10 years when these system integrated radios start going bad? Spend $2000 for a new one at the dealer? If you go aftermarket, you loose the ability to manage system settings like light control, lock control, teen driver and many more. I was told by GM corporate that aftermarket also voids warranty.

Probably right. Buy a 70 thousand dollar truck and use it as a disposable item for a few years, replace it,  and keep a 20 thousand dollar collector car to remind you of the good ol' days. That's what I do!

Buy an old one from a junk yard ten years from now?

...or just buy a new headunit that has iDatalink and use a Maestro to integrate it into the system.  I doubt you'd still have a warranty to worry about ten years from now, so don't worry about the aftermarket stuff.

I found a video that explains how the Maestro works with an aftermarket stereo... it gets into the factory settings at about the 4:50 mark:

Upgrade to one of the two Alpine integrated units when the factory fails outside of the warranty period. By that time they’ll be affordable...

I replaced my 7" IOB with the 10" Alipine x110slv Restyle kit/idatalink Maestro and it is completely plug n play with no factory wire or dash cutting. The Maestro maintains "most" of the factory functions and whoever told you that B.S. about swapping radios voiding the warranty should read up on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
