Csjumper2003 Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 Howdy, All... I also want to install a slider in my 2017 Sierra. I wanted to ask those that have done this: did you do yourself? I’m having issues finding a business that will do it. what did you install? Factory or aftermarket? did you have to remove the headliner? Thanks for any tips, ~FreemanThe only thing I had a shop do is install the window. The rest was on me. pgamboa helped me a lot with chasing some wiring. End the end I had wiring all the way. Was missing the passenger side fuse panel that I got from him. And the. I was missing the motor and upper console for the switch. Once I got them. I marked where to mount the studs for the motor, got the upper console and fuse panel I was set. All I needed to do is get the glass company to get me the glass and install. Was only like 650 here installed and it came with the piece that slides on the motor. Oh almost forgot, the top trim is different, so 2 pieces have to be replaced. The middle and passenger side one. I believe I left some part numbers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Grnphrog Freeman Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Ok, progress is being made on my end. I contacted a Auto Glass company that is willing to remove and install a slider. Not sure if we are allowed to mention brands here or not, so to play it safe I wont (private text me if you really want to know). Either way I was going to go with the only Sliding Window I could find via a very popular search engine But after removing the back seat and all the trim and molding, I found several unused plugs. See attached picture. I'm assuming one of them is the plug for the factory installed Sliding Window, so now I'm opting for the OEM equivalent window that the Auto Glass company is offering as a choice. And now I'm falling down the rabbit hole trying to figure out all the parts I'll need to make this work. I thought all I needed to open the window was Part Number: 23441999, which is the Push/Pull Cable assembly, but apparently I need the actual motor and bracket, Part Number: 23490454. This is more of a question... I'm also going to need the Overhead Console Trim piece but cant find the one that will fit all my options INCLUDING the new Power Slider Switch. Currently I have: Sunroof, Garage Door Opener, and Airbag Status Indicator. I wrote all this out hoping to help others who are also considering doing this "upgrade" and in short, yes... I need some help with Part Numbers. GM doesn't make it easy to figure out. Thanks for all who read this, and huge thanks to those that can offer some guidance. ~Freeman
Miguel Olea Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 the black one on the left, farthest away from your Bose amp, is the plug for the power motor. Buy the window with the regulator in place, then just buy the motor. The motor bolts to the raised boss you see; the large circle. Once you get the motor with bracket you will see where you need to mount the studs or drill holes to bolt it in place. Google "silverado rear power sliding window motor" to get images of where it should be installed for reference. Here is what you need: 23443944 passenger side fuse block with needed relays for open/close of rear window. 84392225 console wiring harness with plug for rear window switch. 22774498 rear window slider switch. You will need to order the trim panel for your overhead console depending on color and year to accept the rear slider switch. Be careful! 2014-2017 use a larger trim panel. 2018 uses a smaller one to incorporate the larger sun glass holder. You will also need to buy the lower garnish trim under the window and the corner one for the passenger side only. If you have a sunroof then you probably DON'T have to run the 12vlt power wire and the two trigger wires down to your driver's side fuse block and the junction block AKA trailer brake control box. Please let me know if you need further help. You can also email Mike for some additional info. He is a very nice gentleman that talked me through all the steps I needed to do.
Csjumper2003 Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 I have a post with a lot of the part numbers. Pm me if you need part numbers or pics I used all oem parts Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Qmart49 Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 i would like to thank mkwambold for his help replacing my solid glass rear window to a rear glass slider, his instructions & diagrams were just what i needed to complete the job (factory) without any issues. Thanks again. 1
Grnphrog Freeman Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Howdy, all... the quest continues and need to consult the Oracles. GM Parts Direct says Part Number 84392225 ( 84392225 )console wiring harness only comes up as having the Sunroof connector and does not include the Power Slider This is getting frustrating. It is the only thing holding me back from completing my shopping list. Thanks to Miguel and Csjumper2003 for their patience and willingness to help. ~Freeman
Grnphrog Freeman Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Update: So this is weird... I tried searching a 2018 Sierra and found that P/N: 84392225 does indeed support Sunroof and Power Slider! I rechecked for for a 2017 and the decription is different and says it does not support the Power Slider. So I'm just going to order it tonight and see what happens. Keep you updated ~Freeman
Csjumper2003 Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 I would look at the description on the item. It will say no pwr slide, no sunroof, no home link If you need all three pick the one according to your color. I picked the one from a 2500 which had honelink, and power slider bc I didn’t have a sunroof. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Miguel Olea Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Check the part numbers at the dealer. You can't believe everything on those internet sites; especially GM parts direct. They are a good guide, but nothing more. This is how I bought the wrong trim plate cover for my 2018. It was only a 25.00 part that I ordered at my dealer using the part number I got off of GM parts direct. Turned out it was NOT for the 2018 as listed. 84392225 is the one you need. I also have a sunroof. I got that number cross referencing a number I saw on a picture of the overhead console for sale on ebay with the correct wire harness. As far as the window I bought a new GM one on ebay for 800.00 free shipping. let me know if you need more help. 1
Csjumper2003 Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 I would also check your local glass guy bc I paid 800 installed for my oem glass. Ready to mount on the motor. And didn’t have to deal with shipping or buying separately and then screwing it up or breaking or anything Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Grnphrog Freeman Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Well, bummer news. PN: 84392225 out of stock across the USA. So I decided to just go with the CR Lawerence Power Slider. Oh well, it’s a cheaper way anyhow because I won’t have to buy all the factory items; wire harness, console trim, factory switch, etc... Will update more when it happens. ~Freeman
Miguel Olea Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Keep in mind that they do not offer a power slider with the defogger grids so you will loose that option. I looked into that before I bought the GM one. Not having the defogger was a downgrade for me in Northern CA. Why not buy a used overhead console from ebay? 1
Grnphrog Freeman Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 Update for those who are following or find this at a later date in the future: Got the window installed! Bad news: the CR Lawerence Power Slider DID NOT fit. It stuck out by a good inch... Good news: the installer brought an OEM window with him! Installed great! Bad news: had to start buying all the extras to make it work and I couldn't get the Overhead Wire Harness because they dont have ANY! Good news:Miguel Olea is a genius and I took his advice, found one on Ebay. Bad news: it was 3 times more expensive ($165) Good news: it worked like a champ! Installed everything (fuse block, overhead console, motor mount) and a miracle happened... the window slider opened! Still have to secure the motor mount. Thinking about going with some rivet nuts sealed up with some polyurethane goop the window installer gave me. Thread in some bolts, also gooped up with polyurethane so water doesn't creep in through the bolt threads. Cut off the bolt heads and voila, threaded studs. Tighten down with nuts and factory install like a mofo! Side note: CarID didnt want to let me return the CR Lawerence Power Slider because it had been over a month since i bought it, but i told them i had to wait as long as i did due to not being able to get an appointment with the installer until a later date. They contacted CR Lawerence to see if they could 'allow' me to do it, and they did. However, they wanted me to send back in the orginal box, but that was damaged due to shipping and i had already thrown it away. So i had to make my own box (think about that, i had to make a box for a rear slider window... i wont go into that much detail regarding that). Just sent it in a couple days ago... will let you know if i get refunded my $800. Keep all informed to finish up this project. Thanks for all involved for their advice and encouragement. ~Freeman 1
Grnphrog Freeman Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 All installed! Everything works like a champ! Thanks to all who have helped me on the way, you know who you are!!! I have posted the following pictures to show the holes and rivit nuts installed and where i put them for those who read this in the future. Now I just have to finish install my Sound Deading Material and reinstall the interior.... jeeze, i hope i remember how it all goes back in. See you on the next project. ~Freeman
