Most useful truck mods?

Hey guys,

So now that I've had my truck for a few months I've been thinking about what mods I should add to my truck that will add the most practicality. I've already ordered a soft tri-fold tonneau cover to keep everything in my bed dry and out of sight, added a slightly darker tint to my front windows to keep the inside a bit cooler, and added weather tech mudguards to keep my fenders a bit cleaner and more protected from rock chips. I'm looking at getting Husky liners for the interior as the OEM mats that came with the truck really don't cover much area.

Other mods I'm looking at are seat covers to protect the leather seats and a bug/rock deflector to hopefully save the paint on the hood. Any other recommendations or ideas you guys have to add more practicality to my truck and keep it looking good for years to come? I'm not planning on lifting the truck and i don't plan on replacing tires until these wear out as I hate to waste a perfectly good set of rubber. Thanks in advance for the replies!

My 2 favorites immediately come to mind.

-Fisheye mirrors if you don't already have them.

-ScanGauge II, you can monitor just about everything going on with your truck, and it can tuck nicely just about anywhere. It also reads codes if/when the CEL comes on.

I second the bug deflector, especially with the easily chipable windshield and paint. I have a smoke colored AVS on mine(full size, not low profile) and have no complaints at all.

Skip the seat covers, why cover beautiful leather seats with a cover? The guy you sell the truck to after years will appreciate it :)

Unless you use the truck for work and constantly get in and out with dirty clothes.. you should be fine. Just clean them periodically and leather conditioner on them.

1- do the throttle shim DIY

2- get full liners like you said. I use my year around

3- Get a catch can, Elite is pretty good. Big debate on this but when you see what it catches you will want that out of your intake.

let your truck breath...get a drop in replacement K&N air filter...or if you want to get a little spending, get the K&N cold air intake...I've had both...the drop in is $50 and worth its weight in gold...

I'll second this and suggest a clear bra instead of a bug deflector.

I see some newer trucks already have the fisheye mirrors but if yours does not you won't believe how useful those are.

Ditto the Scan Gauge II.

Linear Logic the parent company send me a data recorder and we trapped all the codes then I put them in this link. Granted mine is a 2015 but most will be the same and the company is really good about helping you find new ones.

^ This isn't a debate about whether a catch can works or is snake oil..

I have one, it captures oily residue that otherwise goes into the intake.

I use top tier gas and still get it, its just the design of the engine.

2018 truck, i think he should put one on now but that's his call.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I haven't done much research into catch cans or the throttle mod, I'll have to look into those. For the rock deflectors, is AVS a good brand? What about window visors? Anyone have any input on them? Also, does any company make skid plates for these trucks? or does GM offer additional skid plates? Attached is a picture of my truck as requested. Took it earlier today while driving around some backroads. Need to give her a good wash now!

Talk to anyone with a painted front bumper and they will tell you they have an absurd amount chips in the paint.

I get about 20 chips per year if I had to guess a number. So cover that up. It’s just front bumper.

Just a personal experience on window visors - I had them on mine, but took them off.... I was thinking they would help allow the windows to be open (a bit) in the rain, but they didn't do squat for that.  Also, I found them somewhat obscuring my view when making left hand turns, as it made the visibility around the A pillar seems like I needed to move my head to the left frequently to see "around" the visor....

For reference, I had the WeatherTech 'in-channel' ones - they looked nice installed from the outside, but just didn't have the practical function I was hoping for.
