I was looking at both Ford and GM. Ultimately it came down to a combination of price and a slight preference for the small block over the small eco boost. As a casual observer, looking into the engine bay of the smaller eco boost gave me a mild amount of panic. It seems like sooo many possible issues. Once again, I’m not a mechanic, and I was leaning GM before I went to test drive and F 150, so there’s that.   Looking down into this just triggered worry for someone who keeps vehicles for a good deal of time  I could be wrong though  6a00d83451b3c669e201b8d249dca3970c-pi

Another way to look at this is that time will eventually immortalize  current engine technology as simple and solid!  We also continue to raise the bar with our expectations. In the "good old days" buying a truck approaching 100K miles meant you were buying a rebuild/project vehicle.  Now when you buy a truck with this kind of mileage your biggest concern is if you should replace the original spark plugs.

Couldn’t have said it any more perfectly myself! I think most people complain about the new vehicles mostly cause of their high payments and lack of work ethics in order to get them the driver seat of these new vehicles. I “used” to have a friend that always picked on every new purchase I had, always “ I can’t believe you payed so much for this or that” I once bought a new land cruiser, jacked it up with old man emu, Borla exhaust, BFG’s, safari setup, color matched bumpers, etc...and he gave me same [emoji90]! No matter what kickass vehicle I had it was always same [emoji90], “I wouldn’t have waisted my money on this” he said. I dumped his ass of about 10 miles from his house with him having to walk home. After that I’ve never had an interest in being around envious, negative people always knocking something they can’t afford! You’ll find a bunch of them on here too but lots of good people too,

A buddy of mine has a son that’s works as a ford mechanic, he said that the ecoboost is garbage, Ford is constantly upgrading a flawed system. It fouls up horribly with constant turbo issues. I think GM and fords are great trucks but only direct injection like their 5.0 coyote engine, great motor but the ecoboost is a horrible design with good intentions. But in reality, what auto manufacturer has changed their liters back and forth on their diesels multiple times cause of horrible reliability? FORD! If you don’t want a GM go with a direct injection V8 unless you want to be listed as one of the angry statistics [emoji6]

'14 Silverado CC LTZ= vibration issues couldnt be fixed, 4 new tires still vibtarted, 6 speed sucked in the shop 6 times, free oil change they dented my tailgate, seats hard  as a rock, track clicking fixed two times, build quality on a first year was ridiculous, late 2015 they had incentives made a switch

'15 Sierra Crew SLT= vibration issues developed 1000 miles in, 3 new tires, no change, seat track clicking! again (mind you I'm 200 lbs) the six speed never knew what gear to be in clunking was insane, reprogram 3 different times, seat was horrible hard, hated the trans and 5.3 lack of power found a deal at my dealer for a 2015 Denali XL

'15 Denali 6.2 /8 speed= Vibration issues and it had 4 brand new tires when certified. Yes I test drove it, started within the month, 5 new tires(that's 9 total!!!)shuddering need new torque converter, then it had a delayed engagement going into gear, entire trans had to come out again replace a stator shaft!, reprogram again, clunking banging. radiator leaked, new radiator and new T-stat as per bulletin, 4 months later condensor blows middle of Florida summer! no A/C no replacement available for over a month, seat clicking, new track,  auto floor boards always stuck in a position, 2 new sensors, several other issues I can't remember right now as my blood pressure is going up!!!!! then I drove to dealer and told them it was a lemon and it didnt meet the exact definition of a lemon so I said let me just drive it throught the front window and we can total it!!!!  After tense negotioations and having bought many vehicles there over the years, they give me a deal 5K under invoice on a 2017 denali XL

2017 Denali XL = seat sucks for such a luxury vehicle, trans is greatly improved no issues occasional clunk low speed coming to stop then on gas, but overall good, loud A/C compressor, dealer replaced warranty. Insulated A/C lines myself to stop interior ac noise. 6.2 is awesome and so is fuel mileage 11500 miles no other issues so far. Overall the 2017 is greatly improved.

I have been a GM guy since I am a kid. I will not own a Dodge or Ford. BUT I am not their fanboy anymore. I still own my Corvette and have never had such issues with any GM vehicle before. There has been a definite quality control design problem at GM. My 2007 and 2011 Sierras only saw the dealer once in all those years for a loose mirror!!!! This generation sucks, but like a said I am a GM guy just calling like it is.

It can happen, my 14 was a pc of junk, my 16 DMax was awesome and now my 18 6.2 rocks! The 14 was first newly redesigned 5.3 with lack of power and vibrations too, fixed the vibrations with bilstein 5100’s and put them on my 16 DMax too but now I’ve got Fox coil overs waiting for my 18 at my buddy’s shop. GM has great vehicles but sometimes [emoji90] happens. Ford has great trucks too but only regular v8’s like the coyote. I’m a GM guy like you, we just deal with it as it comes.

Wow man you had a list of issues. I would have been done with gm a while back if I had that many issues. I have the 2014 and it's been solid to me. The most I had to do was replace the front windshield as there was scratches when I picked it up and the front transmission case had to be replaced. All under warranty, so all good. I had also had the wax underbody tbs done and it looks like I'll be needing to touch it up. Everything else has been great with the truck.

Like I said I just can't do the competition, and I am a masochist!! Have always found GM to be very reliable, easy to work on, cheap to keep. Also great value for what it is. I saw an interview with one of the executives and he even admitted they rushed this generation out after all their problems coming out of bankruptcy. Said they really did their work on the 2019 truck coming out?? After seeing the Land Rover like interior of the Navigator and interior or the Dodge ram pick up, I think Gm will still be behind! Maybe it will be a better truck because all these issues are ridiculous for 50-78K trucks!

Yeah I felt they rushed this truck out in the market but the discount that I got was great so I couldn't pass it up. I would like to trade up but in not going to go for a 2019 out of fear of the first year of the model and that I've been really lucky with the truck that I have right now. I do agree the prices of trucks these days are insane but people are willing to pay for them and so companies are willing to charge them. I haven't seen how the Rams look but the Ford's look amazing and I was so tempted to get one of them.
