2006 gmc 2500hd. Work truck long bed w/4.10 gear. Says truck can pull 10,400lbs

2016 Chevy Silverado 2500hd double cab 6.5' box 4.10 gear. Says it can pull 14,400lbs.

Why so much different. Or am I mistakenly?

Trying to pull a fifth wheel that weights in right around 13,500 loaded.

I want to use the '06 to get it done......

Different engine, gearbox, suspensions. . .

SAE J2807 standard came in between, so measured differently.

I would see what insurance has to say, 5th wheel can easy make a 3000# difference.

Of course all assume no other cargo load **at all**.

Whole different truck.  2001-2010 frame is nothing like the 2011+newer.  Frame, suspension, axles, 4L80 in yours vs. 6L90, more powerful 6.0, etc.  All different between the two trucks.  They share gear ratios and displacement, that's about it.  2011+newer a whole lot more truck.

So end of the day, you need either a smaller trailer or a newer truck.

Yes, trans & engine has a small Advantage. Was unaware of frame. was just making sure.....

Many 5th wheels REQUIRE a 8 ft bed to Maneuver properly, and park them.

 Something to consider.

New hitches are completely adjustable or have an offset built in.
