Just pickup up Truck.

They flushed the transmission, convertor and lines, changed the fluid multiple times, replaced & reset the shift adapter.  Verified concern: FOUNDTCC Shudder.  Not sure what that means all considered.

THE TRUCK RAN GREAT & SMOOTH WITH NO STUMBLING OR ERRATIC SHIFTING.

If this is a sign of the future, I am in LOVE with my truck once more!!

BAD NEWS !! My GMC Denali has learned to be a stumbling drunk again.  Must be my driving as I am told that the Shift Adapter learns.  Back to the Shop !!

Its not your driving, cut your losses and get rid of that headache. It will be trouble to the day you get rid of it.

Took my 2017 in for scheduled maintenance (oil, filter, etc) and asked them to perform the shudder test. Sure enough, my truck “qualified” for the new flush. However, now as it turns out, the torque converter is bad, too, at 64,000 miles. Of course the drive train warranty is up at 60,000. Good thing I bought the extended warranty which covers me right up to 115,000 miles. Been at the shop for 4 days now. They provided me with a loaner. A Chevy Equinox. I sure do miss my Sierra SLT!

I just got an email about a class action lawsuit on the 8 speed. Sounds like GM dropped the ball on that bad boy

I have roughly 41k on my truck now and it has had erratic shifting from the moment I bought it with 20 miles on it. I am considering the new 10 speed Yukon. I have heard good things about it.

Update:  The torque converter was bad from all the metal shavings found during the flush.  They dropped the transmission and found metal shavings, too.  Unfortunately the transmission had to be replaced but again, fortunately for me, my extended warranty took care of the bill.  I've had it back for a few days now and so far it's smooth as silk.  No more hard shift changes from first to second and from second down to first.  And no more shuddering between 15-45 mph.  And, I've got a new transmission with a 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty.  My GM dealer was absolutely fantastic during the entire ordeal.

I have a 18 6.2 with the 8 speed, overall I love how it runs, drives and shifts. Way better than the 17 5.3 6 speed my uncle has. The shifts are smoother and never seem to be in the wrong gear. I like it alot. But I have 1 weird issue when it's cold, the first shift from 1st to 2nd it has a weird delay sometimes. Enough that if I'm going up a hill, when it happens it lunges my body forward a little bit. Only happens every once in a while though.

That's normal,  GM published a bulletin on it.. Clutch oil fill time they say.

Yea I have gotten over it. Kind of annoying. But I absolutely love how mine drives otherwise.

Does anyone care to share how tho become part of this class action lawsuit?  PM would be most appreciated.

Well, Truck is bad again.  Back for the 4th time.  Got real bad news as the new Sierra Denali is 4 inches longer and won't fit in the garage :-(.  Really was looking forward to get a 6.2L 10speed...

Submitted claim to join class action suite (pretty sure that won't help).

A friend suggested leaving keys in the truck, can'y bring myself to do that.

Checking on Florida Lemon Law but it is almost impossible without lawyer.

Pretty sure GM lawyers are involved now.  This was the 4th time I have took truck in for Stumbling Drunk transmission. Now they said that it is, and I quote, "Normal".  So if they have problems shuddering and such it is now normal.

1st time - Works as it should (1 day)

2nd time - Changed fluid per TSB and reset Adaptive Shift Module (3 days)

3rd time -  Fixed 2 issues with garage mode.  I have not a clue WTF that is. (3 days)

4th time - Normal (3 days) what a joke !!

Not even sure what to do...

It is a nightmare !!

Thought I would check in on this topic, has anyone had any luck with getting the clunky transmission problems fixed? What about the lawsuit from what i can tell only applies to certain states, I am hearing and getting mixed reviews that the latest new transmission fluid( released back in early 2019) is helping some folks.

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
