UPF48R

Good afternoon.  On my 07 I had the dreaded low oil pressure issue.  Changed the oil pressure sensor and no help, then read the GM bulletin to install a UPF48R filter.  Unbelievably it cured the problem and low oil pressure was never an issue again.  My question is, can the UPF48R be used on my 2018?  Thanks

The PF63E is what is recommended by GM.  The by-pass valve setting is now at 22psi.  This was increased for a reason.  I would not go with any other filter that doesn't meet the 22psi rating.  The 2007 is a different oil system than the 2014 and up engines.  Even Wix made a change to their application for the new LS engine to reflex the pressure increase.

Yes, the manual says PF63E.  So thats what I got.  Changed the oil yesterday at 4,900 miles.  Would the increased by-pass pressure increase the oil pressure?  It seems like I have about 5lbs more of oil pressure than previously.  I took a PF63 off, as the original oil filter.

No, the increased by-pass pressure has nothing to do with the oil pressure of the engine.

OK, maybe it's my imagination.  But, for sure the UPF48 increased the oil pressure on my 2007.  It was a dramatic difference.  And, holy crap, 8 quarts of oil in the new truck.

I like the 8qts.  I just dump in 2 gallons and I'm done.  No messing around with quart containers.

They upped it to 8 quarts in the 2014's and later models, from 6 quarts in the 2007-2013's, as too many of those trucks were running around on 3 quarts due to the infamous AFM oil usage and loose piston rings problems.

Was your '07 the old body style (GMT800) or the new body style (GMT900?).  Can you post a copy of that GM bulletin on using the UPF48R for low oil pressure?

I would think (in theory) if an oil filter caused oil pressure to increase that would be due to more restriction.

Re: OIL PRESSURE ISSUE / OIL FILTER THE CAUSE

by GM-Man » Jun 14 2015, 4:30pm

Here is the service bulletin in regards to the above concern. GM has released an updated PF48R. I recommend using a PF63 as these filters have never been a problem. Not to mention the larger (longer) size makes them much easier to install and remove.

Bad info.  The 2014 Tahoe for example uses 6 Quarts not 8 but it is an easy mistake as often that generation is clumped erroneously in the 07-13 range when it should include 14.  Looking right at my 14 manual saying 6 quarts oil as example while some people swear its 8.

UPF48R was made for dry sump wasn't it? It's what I use in my 2007 Z06

The 14+ has a different filter all together, use the ACDelco 63.
