Wrapping the full truck

There are a few threads on wrapping on here.  From what I'm finding in my research it seems to be a relatively new concept that is gaining a lot of attention.

I'm referring to the full "color change" type of wrap.  A solid color like satin black.  I've seen a couple trucks with this, but not a Silverado... the ones I've seen look REALLY REALLY good!

Very aggressive looking and sharp at the same time.   I looked into it here in Texas and a full color change wrap to the truck with one solid color (satin black) is a flat 3K plus another 1K for all chrome on the bumpers AND grill if you want it.  Not too bad in my initial opinion.

I've also read that unless you are a true professional at this, that you should NOT attempt a "whole truck" color change type of warp yourself.

Some opinions say, "yes, it looks cool...but how long until you get tired of the non-shiney pretty silver truck you once had?"   I'm not sure...

What are your opinions on wrapping a vehicle like this?  I'm thinking the satin black would look pretty damn nice on the truck.

Thoughts???

Had a buddy do it to his Mustang a few years ago. I know a Mustang isn't a Silverado but it looked pretty badass like a stealth fighter or something.

Just to chime in, I was quoted around 6k to do a full clear PPF for my truck

Very common to see vehicles  'wrapped' here in New England - $3-4k sounds like an inexpensive quote for a full size truck.

I've done some small scale vinyl wrap work and it definitely requires skill + patience I don't have

I've been putting off wrapping my grille and bumpers since it was cold still (in Texas, so a while now)  The video tutorials on Youtube seem to imply to me that:

1) yeah you can do it in a weekend

2) good materials cost but make it easier

3) a second pair of hands is ideal and

4) this is clearly not rocket surgery

That said the materials are still sitting in my garage waiting for me to do it.  Is doing it myself worth it versus the cost of paying someone?  Absolutely.  If you can find the time and are motivated enough, it's worth doing.  Knock out the easy flat surfaces first and learn while you go.  The wrap itself is forgiving, provided you didn't cheap out on it.  Also, you'll likely need double what you think.

If you're looking to do a color change, I would push for vinyl over PlastiDip because PD is a bitch to remove if you don't do it right or pull it off before it hardens.  There's a 2-3 year lifetime on PD until it fades or has to be removed before it chips and breaks during removal.

Plasti dip has a kit for a whole vehicle for around $600. If you plan on going with a simple color like satin black then I would definitely go Plasti dip. Watch some videos on YouTube and educated yourself on it and it should be a easy job.

Yea, I agree with the above on Plastidip. I've done plastidip work on emblems and it holds well.   I can't imagine doing an entire car.   I would definitely stick to the vinyl wrap.

I'm not hearing any negatives or glaring, "OMG DO NOT DO THAT" with the Vinyl wrap...  I do have a solid quote and he DID mention that while the truck is large, it's not too overly difficult because of the flat surfaces.   If I have them to do the bumpers and chrome it's another 1k... so total would be 4K.

I'm lifting it a bit now and doing the Borla exhaust. When that's all done, I'll decide on the wrap. Will post pics here first too!
