Quotes for exhaust

So I have been doing my research on different exhaust systems and I really like the borla S Type. What I don't like is that it is the most expensive cat-back system. So i have been exploring options and visited a couple of local shops... first place only carries knock off brand mufflers. So I wanted to get a quote first they didnt want to run it out behind the rear wheels because it would "drone" inside the cab... they only recommend me running it out the back and quoted me 550. Place no. 2 only carried 2 brands same suggestions on running it out the back but also wanted to not use any exhaust tips as this would also add unwanted noise. They quoted me 650.... couple of questions I have. I have never noticed any of my exhaust having a "drone" because it was ran behind the tire instead of out the back. I have always attributed any done to the muffler that was chosen am I wrong about this? Secondly am I crazy for thinking these prices are to high for what I'm asking for?

For that price are they making you a cat back with your choice of muffler or just muffler swaps?

They are calling it a cat back but using aluminum pipes much like the installer series that MRBP makes that they sell for 450. Nothing is stainless except the tips and the 650 quote didnt include tips.

Snag a Borla muffler or a muffler of your choice and have it swapped in place of your stock one and have the valve cut out. Shouldn’t cost you more than a couple hundred bucks not counting the muffler. I got my two stock mufflers cut out and two bullets welded in on my charger for $250 including the cost of the mufflers.

I am probably going to end up just buying a cat back. For the money they want locally to do exhaust work I can buy something I like in stainless steel and not have to worry with them.

Your money but personally I think it’s a waste to buy a full cat back. The cost vs performance isn’t worth it. And aluminized steel will last a long time and for the cost can be replaced a couple of times versus the price of a cat back.

I don't disagree but I can buy a cat back cheaper than they have quoted me. I have been eye balling the MBRP installer series for 350 if I go single exit or 450 for dual rear exit.

I just bought the Carven TR muffler and will be replacing my stock muffler but their full cat back SS system for $550 is amazing and they sound sooooo good on the 5.3/6.2 engines.

If you want a bat out of hell sound then get the R muffler, otherwise the TR is progressive so it gets louder the harder you push the pedal.

The price is cheaper at other sellers, search around for the best price.

Thanks for the advice. I will check into it.

Have you looked into the GM Borla system? I have it installed on my truck and it has the flapper in it to eliminate drone if you don't already have the AFM disabled. I really like it and its relatively cheap ($1300) considering how much the truck is.

I had the Borla S Type on my 2015 and I loved it. I had plans to take it off when it sold but the guy loved it as well and we made a deal on it. I was trying not to spend that much again.

I've got a Magnaflow with the flapper deleted and it exits exactly where the factory pipe was.

All in - including a black powder coated tip, was $350 out the door.

Ah.  I was still thinking Borla based off of your original post.  For $350 I'd go with the MBRP.  Never ran them on a gas engine but did on a diesel.  Nice systems.

I got the MBRP Installer series single exit behind the wheel and love it. Sounds great and drone isn’t bad at all

Even though the tip is stainless I went to the beach and the saltwater put a hurtin on it quick and it rusted up. I ended up pulling it off and powder coating it black. Other than that the system has been great

Awesome! I cant make up my mind. I am hesitant because I haven't heard one in person. Exhaust sound is very subjective. Some really love flowmaster and It annoys me terribly. I'm hoping to run across one around town that has it so I can listen in person

    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
    • I'm putting in an A-pillar pod/gauges, and I'm asking if anybody can identify a (preferably) fuse for a switched power and illumination circuit on the driver's side interior fuse panel. Offhand, everything I checked with a test light was constant-hot, and I'd much rather uses a piggyback fuse. I can certainly find a wire, but I'd rather not half-tap.   Thanks in advance for any help.
