Could you do me a favour?

It would be super awesome if yous could do me a huge favour! The next time you go to start your truck after it has been sitting for 5 plus hours (like in the morning after it has been sitting all night). Before starting the engine could you try pressing the brake peddle and report back with the results. Mine is hard as rock first push (not that I can push it lol). Im trying to figure out if it’s normal or not.

I recently had the hard brake peddle while reversing into a parking spot issue that’s been posted on the forums a couple times. Dealership replaced the brake booster. But I think something is still not right with the brakes. Hard peddle after the truck sits for 5 hours and an inconsistent feeling of the peddle getting higher and harder after repetitive use sometimes makes me think this. But I’m also a little uneasy with the truck now, I don’t really trust it to stop. Dealership doesn’t think anything is wrong or just doesn’t believe me. Trying to figure out what to do. Truck is a 2015 Silverado crew cab V8 btw.

We all(?) depress the brake when starting and putting vehicle in gear. Rock hard pedal is not normal. If not fixed it's lemon law or recall justification, inho.

The brake pedal on my 2018 Sierra is never rock hard.

Mine isn’t hard at a 117k mikes but I’ve experienced the hard pedal once in a drive through. My chargers brake pedal gets hard if it sits for a few days. It’s definitely vacuum related. Think I’m going to swap to an electric pump instead of the mechanical.

There is a TSB on the vacuum pump leaking oil into the brake booster. Warranty replacement of all the parts.

I only press the brake when putting the truck in gear, not when starting. But I might change that after this. I agree, it should be a recall. And from what I have been researching I don’t know why it isn’t!! I’ve reported the issue to Transport Canada’s Defect Investigations and Recalls Devision.

Yeah I seen it. I printed it off and showed the service advisor when I first took the truck in. He read it, said it seems like what I was describing and handed it back to me saying they usually check service bulletins. They replaced the brake booster so if there was oil hopefully they would have seen it. I’m 6 months out of warranty so I’m stuck paying for it myself.

Mine will get hard after repeated presses when the truck is off but is soft first press. Never hard while running

Thanks!

Do you have multiple brake peddle presses after the truck has been sitting for 5 plus hours or multiple presses right after the truck has been shut off?

I have 6 presses of the brake peddle right after the truck is shut off but if I shut the truck off and wait 5 hours the first press is hard.

I guess what I’m trying to figure out is if that stored vaccume that you are releasing by pushing the brake with the truck off, is it in a closed / sealed system if nothing is broken? Or is it normal for it to dissipate over 5 hours? Or should it hold its vaccume for a certain amount of time?

Thankfully, I haven’t had the rock hard peddle with the truck on since they replaced the booster but the peddle seems to get higher and harder when I press it frequently and this combined with the loss of stored vaccume when the truck is parked makes me think something is still wrong

I’ll check tonight. Even when running repeated pressing can blow through vacuum faster than it can be replenished

It’s a 2015. Way beyond lemon law in most states.

    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
    • I'm sure if you went to a junkyard where you go in and pull the part off the truck yourself, not a used part place where they do it for you, you can get that part on it's own.  Depending on if and what else you would be buying, and time of day, they might even just skip over adding it as a item to the bill.
