Disabling AUTO Headlights

Has anyone come up with a way to disable just the auto headlights?  I don’t want to turn off the DRLs and I know if I turn the headlight switch to the left it disables the DRLs. For some reason my 18 is so sensitive in the auto headlights. Going home today they headlights came on around 4:30pm. The sun was shining etc. No clue why they would just turn on. Anyways if anyone has come up with something and I’m just not seeing it let me know. Thanks.

I know it’s possible to open up the switch and remove the little spring that makes it flip back to auto. Maybe the guy who did it will chime in to help you out. It’s pretty simple from what I remember

Doesn’t that disable the DRLs though?  I’m not looking for that. Just the auto headlights themselves

There is a write-up on here about putting a resistor in the sensor on the dash to make it seem like there is light all the time so you would have to turn the lights on manually.  I can't seem to find it.

Some members have taken apart that light sensor and removed some of the grease like substance inside. It was much less sensitive after.

I just found the video for adding the resister, only question I have now is how do I get to the light sensor  through the dash?

Rip most of the dash off

Have to pull the A pillars off both sides and then the front trim by the windshield which the sensor sticks out of can be popped up from the sides.

Maybe your sensor is faulty.  Your truck is covered under warranty and worth asking the question.  I've had my truck for over 3 years and headlights turn on and off appropriately.   Most vehicles now are produced with automatic exterior lighting.   Those of us with our personal built-in light sensors who automatically reach for the light switch at dusk are becoming a rarity.  For the benefit of others driving your vehicle in the future, I recommend keeping this feature active.

Its annoying for me as well, mine comes on in the parking garage, middle of the day. Not even the parking garage lights are on...

Has anyone just unplugged the sensor? I've modded my light switch so that I have to manually turn them on but the dash lights are also tied into the sensor and these are the ones that bother me with numerous switches at dusk.

If you have automatic climate control you don't want to unhook it as it also helps control the temp.

Dang. So if I add the resistor to this it may not work for the auto temp then?  It needs to be unplugged and the resistor in the plug
