Bed mat

I searched for a discussion on bed mats but didn't find anything.

I need a mat for my 2018 Sierra to keep things from sliding around. It has the factory spray in liner.

I was wondering what some of you guys have and how you like them. I don't want to spend a lot of money on one either.

Thanks

I have a factory mat in my 2016 Sierra CCSB. I like it ok, my bed does not have a liner so it is the only bed protection (for now). Bought it used, bed shows it. Will have a liner eventually.

It does a good job of keeping stuff from rolling around. It's thick and heavy. Only real negative, to me, is stuff gets under it (like pine straw and acorns), so you need to pull it out every so often and hose out the bed or sweep it out. Not a big deal, just routine maintenance.

Once I get the bed lined, I'll probably sell it, thought. Just depends on the liner.

I bought the Dee Zee DZ86972 Heavyweight Bed Mat from Amazon. $75 shipped, nice and thick and fits like a glove.

If your factory liner doesn't keep your items put, I don't know how much better a bed liner will serve you. You may need to exercise the grooves in the sides of the bed with a stick of lumber to hold things in place. If you frequently drive around with loose items, they should be stored up in the front near the cab. No liner will keep everything still under heavy braking or sharp turns without additional methods to secure them.

I had a similar rubber mat to the DeeZee one referenced above in an old truck with no spray-in. Now I just have the spray in. I would say they both are about equal in keeping things put. The benefit to the rubber mat is it offers some padding to protect the bed, but as stated, it also collects debris and requires more cleaning.

Thanks, I have a trifold cover on it to keep things dry and from blowing out. I put some Christmas gifts in the bed to take to a get together at my daughter's house and when we got there some of the packages had slid back and forth and rubbed through the wrapping paper. My old Ford has a rubber mat and it does a pretty good job of keeping things in place. It's just heavy and awkward to take out and wash off.

I can see how wrapped presents (fairly light, with smooth paper) would be really bad at sliding. For those, rubber mat would probably work slightly better than the spray-in liner.

When I drove my truck to the in-laws last weekend, we loaded up the smaller presents in a laundry basket and stuck it up in the front of the bed. The heavy items weren't a problem.

Get the bed rug with tailgate extension. They’re exactly what you’re looking for.

I put put one in my 14 (old style with detached tailgate mat) and transferred it into my 17 (minus the gate part).  It’s held up great under my trifecta tri fold. It’s not even anchored down in the 17...never get new Velcro for the new truck.

You wont be disappointed.

I saw those online. Read some bad reviews about them blowing out of trucks without covers. That wouldn't be a problem for me with the cover. I liked the fact that they were carpet style and a lot lighter than the rubber but they are also twice the price. $159 vs $80 for a Dee Dee or rough country. That's what I have found so far.
Thanks for the suggestion. I was wanting some real reviews from guys on here.

Yes, I can’t drive with the mat in and without the cover...wasn’t a problem in my 14 because it had the Velcro. 17 has it just sitting in there.

But they come out so easy I either take it out or throw a piece of plywood over it.

I have the factory GM bed mat that came with my 2018 centennial edition Silverado and it’s great.  It’s heavy and stuff doesn’t move.  I load stuff to go to the dumpster at the back of the bed so I don’t have to roll up the cover drive about ten miles up and down hills around some pretty decent curves and when I get to the dumpster nothing has moved.  It also has the GM logo embossed it the mat so it’s got a nice look.  I don’t know what they charge for them as it was part of the centennial package.

I have the GM rubber bed mat and the factory spray liner. The mat was awesome before I put 303 aerospace protectant on it. Now it’s slick as heck! But it’s getting better as time goes by as the 303 dries out a bit. Just don’t do what I did.

I think the mat and the spray liner is a good combo.

They are $130 on the GMC accessories app.

I have the DeeZee mat and as posted, it's thick and fits perfectly. I do not see how it could fit any better and it will not come out even at highway speeds. I have a cover but I got mine after a friend who has no cover recommended it. I have the factory spray in too and stuff used to slide everywhere, not with this mat. Would recommend to my Mom if she had a truck....and yes I love my Mom LOL

I got a weather tech liner, to take the abuse of loads of dirt, rock, or dump runs. Has a 1-2" lip around it and fits tight so it makes cleaning much easier. I have factory spray liner too, so remove mat when not needed. Not as grippy as rubber, but lighter so removal is easy.  Also have cinch straps running across the bed to the lower tiedowns. Sit about 1-2inches off bed and do a great job keeping stuff from sliding front to back.

    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
    • you might read through the info on gmupfitter.com for your truck, to find a good power source.
    • Melling I believe is/was the OEM on the lifters who explored this problem some years ago. The white paper they generated on the topic indicated two items of note when I read it. 1.) They only fail on the switch. Prevent the switch, prevent the failure. 2.) The majority fail due to deposits messing up the timing of that switch. Anyway that's what I got from it.    Mine have always been active, 195K+ now, and my oil maintenance is surgically clean.    Of course this assumes good parts. That is no heat treat issue or machining flaws. I get comfortable that these issues are in the rearview mirror by about 30K. IMHO naturally.
    • Yes, the key seems to be with the half tons that if it has the Z71, then it definitely has the two speed. What got me was that the two speed AND the lower geared towing package option could not be chosen together the last few years unless it was mated up to the 6.2. Want the 3.0 duramax and 3.73 tow gears ... nope, can't get the two speed transfer case ( neighbor son realized that after he had bought his used 3.0 half ton .. where the frick is the low range ? ! ).    I am still unsure which truck series, the half ton or the HD truck that the original poster is referring to for sure other than yes his question is in the HD section of this forum but that doesn't guarantee the question got asked in the right section.
