Give a 14 y/o $4 worth of oracal satin black vinyl and 15 minutes, this is what he comes up with.

Cleaner look without the "granpa" mud flaps hanging down.

Really a "pre-mod"  as he is using the old guards for a guide to make new ones that fit close to the body.

The new ones will cover the holes but not hang down, matching the others on the truck.

We trimmed the factory  guards the day I brought the truck home, but that wasn't good enough for him.

You do know that ones in front of the rear tires are part of the total aero package and not mud flaps...right?

Yes, I'm aware of the aero effect theory, they were taken off  last month with no loss of MPG or ill handling effects afterward.

His prototype turned out so well, a very prominent aftermarket company purchased the design from him. 

 

It  looked stupid hanging down begging to be ripped off, seems like I'm not the only one that thinks so.

 

The truck looks so much better/cleaner without them.

With all due respect, if they were trimmed the day you bought the truck, how do you know there was no change in mpg or handling? 

 

It does look great; kudos to him.

They were trimmed after driving 2380 miles. Highway MPG is actually improved  .2 MPG, calculated over the last 5500 miles. 

Truck has 7800 on it as of today.

Yes I have the finished prototype product my son designed.  He sold the design to an aftermarket customizing company.

They are still in the preliminary planning stages of production.   No ETA of  when they will hit the market.

ah, was wondering what those stupid things are for. I actually thought the dealership put them on the wrong side of the tire at first lol

Isn't it law in some states, to have mud-flaps?

 

It is here in canada for most provinces.

 

I agree the look is ridiculous sometimes, but if it saves me a $300 windshield and they are functional, I can support it.

They’re not mud flaps. This thread labeled them such for lack of a better term. Their intent was to promote the aerodynamics for the truck....they look hideous and probably add .01% fuel savings.

      14-18 Sierra 1500 Heated Steering Wheel Help

      Howdy folks,   Recently I pulled a heated steering wheel and clock spring out of a 2015 Sierra All Terrain (part numbers coming soon - will have to disassemble), and just installed it on my 2016 Sierra WT (as base model as it gets).   On install, I noticed that I’m missing the connector often tucked behind the dash for the heating element.     No problem… or so I thought.   I used an “Add-A-Fuse” at my heated steering wheel fuse location, which has voltage, but no wires. I ran it to the positive of the heated steering wheel (Violet/White), and took black to ground.   Hooked up the battery, turned the truck on - no heated steering wheel. No button backlights. Was pleased to see that my cruise control was working though.   Read a post suggesting reversing polarity, so I gave it a shot. Violet and White to ground, Black to power.    Aha! Heat! But I seemingly can’t turn it off AND still no backlights on any of the buttons.    Checked all fuses, everything is still in good order. I’m stumped.   Does anyone have any insight? If so, please share!

      I'm about 1800 miles into my last oil change, and yesterday a message appeared saying oil life was at 77%. Not sure why it popped up but I think all of these electronics could be susceptible to solar flares or somesuch. I change my oil right at 3K each time, and that was the first time in 10870 miles that message came up. Strange thing is that it showed on the screen at all since I don't drive with that sort of info displayed on the DIC.

      Checked the pads today and there's plenty of meat on them. If the message keeps coming up, I'll just answer YES that the pads were replaced and wait for the squeal.

      Welcome to the Forum! Always post the code definitions along with the codes. there are over 18000 possible codes, no one remembers them all and most will skip over your post rather than look them up
