I have a new 2019 denali 4 door 6.2, it just turned 2,000 miles and it has a chirping noise under the hood at start up most of the time.It sounds like a belt making noise and lasts for about 30 to 45 seconds .Took it to the dealer and they are saying it is in the exhaust and that GM is stating that it is normal. I have owned a lot of vehicles over the years and never had one or heard of one thats supposed to chirp for a while when started. Anybody else notice this also

I think the point was this was for troubleshooting to eliminate if the chirp was coming from the adaptive valve, so I would not be worried about the chopper noise. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatal

Same chirp here on cold startup then goes away when warm, dealer said its normal, pretty annoying.

2021 6.2 10 speed trail boss chirps all the time start up or driving down the highway truck has 300 miles on it. Seriously sounds like Chevy trash.

On the 2014-2018 K2 trucks like mine, the Adaptive Exhaust Valve A.K.A. exhaust flapper slightly before or after the muffler produced a Chirping

noise on startup and also during warm driving when switching from V4 to V8.

Some trucks have it, some do not.

I believe I have the same noise.  My dealer said “could not duplicate”.   I can hear it sometimes when going down the road if the radio isn’t too loud.

Are there any negatives to clamping it open? Also, how does it sound open? Specifically, on the highway. I could hear mine. While it really doesn’t bother me, it sounds like the truck is cheap

With it clamped open the truck will be a touch louder, and you may get a hellicopter noise when it drops down from 8 cylinders.

I understand that. Difference is I would hear the helicopter while driving my long commute to work where as I only hear the chirp from outside the truck when I’m stopped or with window open. I guess ultimately I have to try it out

I have my 16 clamped open and tuned to turn off afm so no helicopter or chirp. Still pulling over 20 mpg at 70 mph with mud tires. If the adaptive valve is rattling or chirping the dealer may replace it under warranty. Mine has been replaced twice so far but the rattle always comes back.a180a1421588992c666b7de776986f70.jpg

I bought a new 2019 GMC Sierra SLT 6.2 about a week ago. Had the stock muffler, as well as the adaptive valves in front of and behind it removed.

 

Had a Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow Added for a nice deep tone to enhance my driving experience that would not upset the neighbors. 

 

I still hear a chirping sound on a cold startup and when the truck kicks off at a red light and starts up. I know jack sh*t about engines or any of this. I just love trucks... and hate chirping. The chirping reminds me of the exhaust of the VW Beetle from the 70’s. Thoughts?

Yep.  I have the GM cat back and hear the chirping too (on cold starts).  Seems to go away when warm.

      Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.

      2015 Sierra Denali L86 cyl 5 misfire at idle

      Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?

      2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!

      Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
