Hypertech tuner

So I was at dealership today for a computer module update that was a recall and I asked about speedometer recalibration.  They said they do it using the hyper tech module and it was $300.  Basically, you have to buy the tuner and they will tune truck for you.  He said that the tuner is based off of the VIN and they can’t use same tuner on every truck.   He did say we keep tuner and can bring it back any time for a re-tune.  Of course, I didn’t think to ask how much it is after you pay the initial $300.  But I haven’t heard of these tuners being locked to a VIN.  Any one have knowledge of this?

Just had mine done today.  Speed is perfectly calibrated with 35 inch tires!

You have it done at the dealership? So you bought the tuner?

I had it done at Black Jack Speed Shop here in San Antonio.  They purchased the tuner and hooked it up to their computer.   From there they entered the specs of the tires and installed it in the truck.  Super easy.

Any of the popular tuners (Hypertech, Diablo, etc.) are single license and therefore retain your stock tune in the tuner when you "insert" their tune into your vehicle's computer.  That way, if you need to revert to the stock factory tune when returning to the dealership for warranty work or other maintenance where the vehicle's computer might be updated by the dealer, you'll be OK and your tuner won't become worthless.  It's fine.

And you can buy your own tuner and do it yourself and save some money.  Plenty of help on this forum if you need it.

Were you able to get your truck to go faster than the 100 mph limiter they have on these?

If my speedo goes up to 140 mph I want to be able to get there. I hate that they limit it to 100.

Your factory tires and driveshaft can't even go that fast, why bother.

Did you notice if the truck shifted any better after re calibrating for the bigger tires? I put 35's on mine and I feel that maybe it would shift better with a re cal, seems to want to shift too soon now.

I haven't notice any change.  Shifting seems good to me.

Its just speedo correction. It does not change transmission programming
