Thinking about making one of these. What is the outside dimension of your rear wheels? What size is your mower deck? Would I need it as wide as the rear wheel width? IE 11 wheels in your case. I would think 9 would have worked  maybe?

The roller I made is 36" in width.  Mower is a 42" cut.  You can order or make them totally up to personal preference.  I originally was going to build it to just fill in the gap between the rear wheels, but the wheels still make lines in the yard, and they don't match the striper.  I built the striper specifically a tad longer than the width of the rear wheels so that it's a nice, uniform stripe that will cover up the tire tracks.

Looks good, my 3.5 acre lot is too big of a POS right now to even know where to begin but, if I ever get it fixed up I'd make something like this for my 52" Husquvarna Zerotrun... My last mower was a 48" Husq. tractor similar to yours, they're good machines, only sold mine because the 3.5 acres of seriously bumpy yard was going to tear it to shreds, I had to get a professional grade mower with a full suspension seat to save my body too...

I mow my bumpy hilly 3 acres with a regular 48inch cut Husq. I get 10 years out of them only because I mow in the morning when the grass is wet. The first one the deck rotted. My brother had an old sears ( same mower) he put that deck on it. It’s now 20 years old. The second one I just gave to him. I’m now on my new third one. I get asked why I don’t get a zero turn. I want a steering wheel.

me thinks you guys have way too much free time on your hands....

Lol!  Putting on my earmuffs, turning on pandora and hopping on the mower is like therapy.  No wife telling you what to do, no kids crying and telling on each other and I just mow at my own pace.  That's about the only free time I ever have too.

I don't know how many years I would have gotten out of the mower but, my back wouldn't have taken the beating, our yard is so bumpy that I had been bucked out of the seat a few times on the tractor to the point where it activated the kill switch. The previous original owners did not have a finish grade done on the lawn so it's just as it was when it was a live stock farm back in the day so it's really rough.. The additional upside to the zero turn is a cut my mowing time from 2+ hours to roughly an hour, that time savings was worth it alone to upgrade the mower... I had mowed this lot for 2 years on the tractor, mowed at my last place's one acre lot for 3 years prior so I got a good 5 years out of it, paid $2k sold it for $1k, I guess I did OK... Paid close to $6k for the zero though so hopefully it will last me 15+ years...

To the OP:

Sorry for the off topic discussion, those drone pics look pretty sweet!! Nice yard man!

Exactly, I enjoy cutting the grass, most times! It's been so wet here though and with out crappy graded yard we have, there are many wet spots and I actually got the mower stuck 3x this year and needed to get the truck to pull 'er out, the mower weighs about 800# so there isn't much chance of getting it out manually so that was kinda bummer but, it's finally drying out more..

Not difficult to make, and makes a huge difference. I mow on my highest setting now and it looks awesome. Nice job!

I went the redneck route on my 48” exmark walk behind. I have a 50” x 6” x 1/2” section of rubber matting sandwiched between two 1/2” x 4” boards that works incredibly well. The boards have eye bolts threaded in and a couple quick links to two holes that were predrilled in the frame between the deck and velke. It’s easy to remove if needed and was made from junk the previous owner left at my house so FREE. My mower is tucked away for winter or I would post pictures.

I actually forgot how problematic it is to have a natural grass lawn. You just have to waste a lot of money and time on mowers, water, and other tools. For me, that doesn't make sense anymore. Since I laid an artificial grass rug that I've bought from https://www.artificialgrass-manchester.co.uk/, I forgot about these problems. I will be honest with you guys the artificial grass has more advantages than natural one. I can assure you that. Just try it, I am sure that you won't regret buying it.

Many other tools can help you with this problem; you have only to search on the internet. I recently ordered the best weed remover available on the internet. I saw that it was on sale and I decided to buy it. My cousin uses a similar weed remover for his yard, and he told me that it is a must-have thing in your garage. If you are interested, you can find more on the internet. Check it out by yourself.

    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here.
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
