Dropped my truck off at the dealership for the trans service, 57k miles. They called me up and stated they can't do the filter change as my exhaust is prohibiting getting the full pan off...? I have an aFe Y-pipe, but thats it, other than a normal cat back exhaust.

advisor said they will still do the fluid change but filter wont be changed... how dangerous is this? He said can do the filter around 80k miles...

Not dangerous at all to me.

All of the newest modern day transmission service machines will not harm anything. They use the transmission itself to pump out and "pump" suck in new fluid. The machines do not force fluid into the transmission, which in the way past could damage a high mileage transmission.

They are correct about the exhaust though. It needs to be either removed or partly removed/lowered to get the transmission pan to come forward/down and out.

I just did the fluid exchange in the garage on my 2016 with 98,000 miles using the cooler line method. Didn't touch the filter and it doesn't bother me at all.

If the AFE Y-pipe is in the way, then it would have to come off to get the transmission pan out.

Crawl under and take a look for yourself.

They just go off of what the book says. They told me the same thing about my stock y-pipe. Did a pan drop and filter change myself instead.

Im not doubting the y pipe had to come off to be able to get the pan off, i guess I was just worried that you needed to do the oil AND filter together on transmissions.

What afe y-pipe you got on?....how is it on the truck performance wise?

That is like saying, "Sorry sir, we cant change the engine in your truck because when we go to pull it out of there, the hood is in the way." Good grief, some people's kids.

This one, got it used for a freaking steal of a lifetime.

Definitely an upgrade over the stock Y pipe, im feeling a little more low end torque. upper end it seems to pull harder as well, just a good upgrade since i have a cat back exhaust.  I did have to get 02 defoulers since high flow cats, but other than that everythhing is good with it.
