22 inch tires

Recommended Posts

I about to purchase a set of 22x9 wheels.

Which size 22 tire ?

My goal is some meaty tire for the potholes...

No all terrain tires ...

1. 305 45 22

2. 285 45 22

3. Or a 50 series tires

What's my options.

Thank you.

No level or lift? If you want 22’s, it’s gonne be nearly impossible to get a “meaty” tire. I wanted meaty tires, so I dumped my 20’s, threw on some 17” methods, and wrapped them in 285/70 nitto ridge grapplers. Maybe we have different definitions of “meaty”. That being said, you can probably find all the information you need, and more, at customwheeloffset.com.

I have 285/45/22 on mine with a leveling kit. Without it, that's all your likely going to fit. I am running Nitto Terra Grapplers. If you want something aggressive I recommend the Ridge Grapplers, but you will need a leveling kit in order to go bigger.

My 2015 came with Bridgestone Dueller A/T RH-S P285 45 R 22  -A/T, but IMO they are smooth and quiet. I travel on the NYS Thruway going 70- 75mph and have no problems.

Meaty and 22's don't go together. Heck meaty and 20's don't. If that is your concern stick with the smaller wheel, many more benefits with a smaller rim than a larger one...

Tyler

Totally disagree. I can get a 22" tire with plenty of side lug, road hum one could want. Just go with a taller tire, if you can fit it.

After much research I went with Falken Ziex 305/40r22's since they were the same height as stock on 22x9" wheels with a +27 offset.  Good wet/dry traction and noise is not much worse than the original Bridgestones. I only had a slight left side rub on the inner wheel house liner on a full lock left turn while hitting a bump with stock front height and 3.25" lowered rear. Not sure how much difference there would be with a 45 series 305 but I can tell you that when I hit a pothole I know I hit a pothole although I have never damaged a wheel.
