Transmission cooler line fittings

i bought a transmission cooler line fitting and it came filled with what looks like a grease of some sort.  Is this normal or does it need to be removed before installation?

I don't know what transmission you have, but I would clean that out.  You want the transmission fluid to flow ASAP, and not wait until the pressure builds enough to blow through that grease.  I would also make sure the end of the line (that plugs into the fitting) doesn't get dirt in it while you are R&R'ing the fitting.
