Brake pedal position

Hello Fellow GM Truckers,

I bought a 2018 GMC Sierra and I love everything about it....except the damn brake pedal height difference versus the gas pedal. It's so bad that it's hurting my right hip joint (Old gym injury).

I want to make them level as much as possible, and I found this post by Boss mechanic (item 2 specifically):

I cannot for the life of me find the speedo cable or how to disconnect it.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

First off I have no idea why they called it a speedo cable cause that isn't what it is. It's just a harness that plugs into an electrical motor. This post refers to a truck with power adjustable pedals. Do you have this feature? If not, this will not work for you.

I do have the power operated pedals. The thing is, I've googled, searched the forums and looked pedal diagrams to find the harness/connector of the brake pedal.

Appreciate your help Mike.

I don't want to install a pedal cover with a spacer on a 40,000 Dollar car just to make both of them level.

I did this mod a few years back.The cable disconnects just like a speedo cable. First, adjust pedals all the way to the floor, disconnect the cable, raise the pedal(s) with the switch about an inch, no more, connect the cable, then using the switch move to pedals towards the floor. Be aware you only gain maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch, that's all that can be done. BTW, mines a '14, the newer ones may be different.

Hey Beetle,

Here's the thing. I can't find the damn cable for the brake pedal. And I'm a heavy handed guy, so I don't want to touch anything unnecessarily.

Is it the one clouded in the attached photo?

Sorry, I can't tell by your photo. I did mine 5 years ago, I was apprehensive about disconnecting the cable too but I don't recall any problems.....wished I could provide more info.

Follow the cable down to the black knob, turn c/c to detach.

I got some ultimate pedal covers, removed the stock rubber pedal covers and installed them (drilled into stock metal brake pedal and plastic accelerator pedal) using stainless nuts and bolts. I used some 1" or 1.25" spacers for the gas pedal. Now both pedals sit much closer together. I love the feel. Looks is whatever because I don't look down there anyway. Or you can get a driving shoe with a thicker sole haha

The pedal orientation may be different than your previous vehicles but over time may feel normal. After reading threads on this topic, I wondered why my severely arthritic joints didn't protest when driving my truck. I observed that my driving style involves very little leg or hip movement. My ankle pivots on my heel with no noticeable impact on my knee or hip. I'm sure driving my earlier pickups without power assisted brakes and non-hydraulic clutch would now have me screaming! I suggest seeing if you can't adapt your habits to the new configuration. There is nothing wrong or uncommon with the design of your new truck's pedal arrangement.
