My search for the best Mother effin Hitch so we can avoid Tailgate damage

Actually it does solve the problem with the receiver hitting your tailgate.  I agree it will take longer and be a PIA to do so, but it does solve your problem.

If not now, there will soon be a re-engineered hitch for this tailgate. The market is huge, and a company with a patented design will rake in the cash.

And I have hope there is a hitch on the market that sits tighter to the receiver. I have over an inch of play where BW could drill the hole further back and it would clear the tailgate.

I’ll continue to research and share if I find a solution. Already talking to an engineer at BW.

I tow quite often.  I never feel inconvenienced and its added safety for my hitches.

It’s the risk of somebody opening up the tailgate not knowing of the hitch clearance issue. I’ve already had 2 friends slam it down by accident not knowing.

I’m just trying to dial my truck in the best I can. I enjoy this.

“Just Take the hitch out”

I’m a talking to the dealer?  Obviously, I’m trying to find a solution to keep the hitch in place, and still have function of the fat man ramp.  Maybe I was not clear.

B&W hitches are powder coated and have stainless steel pins.  It does not rust, I have 3 of these and run year round in northern UP.

I’ll keep researching and update folks that are interested.

I am with you on this.

keep on searching, would be nice to find something that would fit without removing the hitch.

Haven't tried it but seems to me if they had moved the receiver part parallel with the body it would have fixed this problem. Yeah, it would be harder to remove or install the hitch but if it's not in the way you don't have to remove it.

It wouldn't, as the ball would still hit.

Leaving these installed with no trailer attached is illegal in some jurisdictions for good reason, imo.    If the amount of effort required to remove it when unhooking the trailer rises to a level of "inconvenient" then maybe find ways to make it less stressful. https://www.sparesbox.com.au/part/hayman-reese-ergo-clips-2pk-55022   I use to find removing the clip in the pin the most difficult part of the task and found this solved the issue.  I appreciate that these hitches can add little bravado to the look of a truck, but they can be a hazard to pedestrians and other vehicles.

Im working with B&W

they are aware of the issue and looking into a tighter pin hole that would bring the entire hitch tighter with the frame.

more to come

Sorry didn’t mean to be a dick earlier. Trucks get me fired up!

Interesting.. didn’t know that.

however we don’t have that law in MN so I’m good.    Additionally, when not in use I flip the ball so there is nothing sticking out to whack your shin on..

Yes, at one time I didn't always bother to remove the hitch.  This changed after I witnessed a senior in a crowded Walmart parking lot walk into one and fall.  She didn't get up without medical help and the owner of the truck found himself talking to the police.  Even if it was legal the driver would have felt horrible.  (I did and it wasn't my truck!) It is simply a matter of habits and routines.  I regularly pull my utility trailer or my travel trailer.  Part of the hooking up and disconnecting process is the hitch ball.  I would be exaggerating if I said this added 30 seconds to the routine. There is also no need to worry about theft or theft deterrents.

Had high hopes for the B&W Tow and Stow model.  Its a good $260-300 depending on drop.

I kind of get what you are going for, and it sounds like there may even be a solution. But I'm still not following why you think it is easier to pull two pins to "stow" or "un-stow" your hitch each time you want to use it, than it would be to pull one pin and simply remove the hitch and put it inside the bed when not in use. Then your friends would never drop the tailgate onto it again. You already have to do something to make your hitch useable, I'm not sure what you are actually trying to gain.

Well said... I can’t argue with that.

Well now I feel like dick head when you make that point.

I guess I just wanted to have the hitch in there and just not have to worry about damaging my new rig or have it rolling around in the bed.. just trying to make it clean and simple to use.

probably overthinking it.

Maybe it is best to just take it off.  Learning as I go, first pickup.:)
